At Dog Training Elite Northern Utah, we know that every dog is an individual and requires different training methods. Maybe your dog needs to work on separation anxiety or learn how to stop barking at the mailman. Dog Training Elite Northern Utah stands out by also looking at what breed your dog is when making training goals.
We don’t discriminate when it comes to breeds, but we know that some species need more specialized training in certain areas. Whatever your dog’s breed, Dog Training Elite Northern Utah can help you and your dog overcome any obstacles related to obedience and socialization. Regardless of breed, size or temperament, Dog Training Elite Northern Utah is capable of breed specific training for all dogs that come to our doorstep.

What Role Does Breed Play?
When it comes to training, the breed of your dog can play a pretty significant role. Generally, dogs share qualities of loyalty, kindness and intelligence, regardless of breed. Specific breeds, however, may have a trait not as prevalent in other breeds. For example, some breeds bred for working roles tend to be more energetic and intelligent than breeds bred to be more of a companion. At Dog Training Elite Northern Utah, we use breed specific training to shape a plan to fit you and your dog.
Is Training Affected By Breed?
While we look at what challenges owners face with specific breeds, the key to dog training is maintaining a consistent schedule to ensure the desired behavior you seek.
The training programs offered at Dog Training Elite Northern Utah come in a general form, but we also provide breed-specific training to target breed-specific issues. Suppose your breed is highly energetic. In that case, we have programs to help you and your dog maintain an active and healthy lifestyle while ensuring that your dog retains the standard obedience training that any dog needs.
Some of the Davis / Weber County breed specific training programs we offer include:
German Shepherd Training
German Shepherds are a popular breed for herding and other working roles. They have many beautiful traits, including strength, vigilance and confidence. German Shepherds are very intelligent as well, making them excellent candidates for dog training with their quick learning. Dog Training Elite Northern Utah can help bring your German Shepherd’s great qualities to the forefront and allow them to be the best companion for your family.
Beagle Training
Beagles have historically been bred for pack hunting, making them an intelligent and curious breed. Beagles are very compassionate and companionable dogs, making them perfect for families and work as therapy dogs. Dog Training Elite Northern Utah harnesses the strong qualities your Beagle has and turns them into a well-trained companion.
Pitbull Training
Pitbull breeds include the American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and other bull-type dog breeds. Sadly, Pitbulls have a history of being bred for blood sports. This history has caused fear and misinformation when it comes to Pitbull temperament. The breed has been known for being aggressive or intimidating, but the breed is better understood for being tender and loving with its owners and companions. Dog Training Elite Northern Utah is experienced in handling Pitbulls and helping owners build loving and loyal relationships with them.
Boxer Dog Training
The Boxer breed is known for its muscular build and expressive face. They’re also very alert and energetic. Boxers have a rich history of being bred for hunting and herding. They make excellent companions for active families, and with proper training techniques from Dog Training Elite Northern Utah, we’ll ensure your Boxer is happy and fulfilled.
Doberman Training
Dobermans are mighty and loyal dogs. As companion dogs, they will adopt a protective nature when it comes to family and property. Because of these traits, it’s important to begin their training early. Proper socialization and obedience training will help prevent unwanted aggression and behavior. Dog Training Elite Northern Utah can help you maintain your dog’s outgoing and playful nature while reining in the fierce attitude they might have.
Golden Retriever Training
As one of the most popular breeds to have as companions, Golden Retrievers are wonderfully outgoing and loving. They are excellent working dogs and commonly used as service animals as they are knowledgeable and possess a calm temperament. Dog Training Elite Northern Utah is ready and capable of turning your Golden Retriever puppy/dog into the perfect family companion.
Labrador Training
Labradors make great family dogs. They are an intelligent breed that loves to please. Labradors take direction well and are easy to train. This breed is also perfect as a companion dog, making them suitable for work as a therapy dog. Early socialization and professional training are crucial to raising a well-behaved Labrador. The experienced trainers of Dog Training Elite Northern Utah can assist you in training this impressive breed.
Goldendoodle Training
Goldendoodles are a special breed that possesses the loveable traits of the Poodle and Golden Retriever. They are eager to learn, compassionate, patient and very loving. Goldendoogles’ nature makes it a perfect breed candidate for training in general obedience and service dog training. They are an excellent breed for families, and Dog Training Elite Northern Utah knows how to turn this breed into the perfect companion.
Though breed-specific training is taken into account, all of Dog Training Elite Northern Utah’s training programs are based on a foundation of consistency and positive reinforcement. Punishment does not yield positive results. Dogs are eager to please, regardless of breed, and if they’re rewarded for good behavior, they’ll stick to good behavior.
Our Balanced Theory
We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.
Empowering Owners
We empower owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times.
Personalized
We deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis.
Environment Specific
We train wherever issues tend to arise (i.e. jogging, park, home).
Supportive
We support owners in the off-hours (when training is "not in session").
Involved
We work with all members of the household.
Simplified & Customized
We plan training around the owner's schedule and require only 15 min/day follow-up practice.
Continued Training
Additional programs / group sessions offered after in-home training.
Lifetime Investment
We follow up & are invested in the owner's success long-term.

It has been a great experience working with dog training elite (especially Trevor). Roman (my doberman) used try to pull me down the street when we took him for a walk. Now I can run with him and he stays right beside me. I can even walk him without a leash and he stays right at my side. All their staff have been great to work with!— alejo sanchez

We have had such a great experience with Dog Training Elite. We've had three different trainers work with our very anxious 2 year old boxer. When we started we couldn't safely walk him. We have now walked to a park full of kids, scooters, and people and he held a down! Money well spent!— Jodi Parker

Colleen was amazing! She walked us through training our 3 Brittany’s. There is a remarkable positive improvement in both their demeanor and behavior. Two of them are rescues that endured previous abuse. Colleen helped us work through their fears and insecurity.— Maureen Evans

I was ready to rehome my aggressive pitbull. But through working with Salena I love my dog again and I am able to take her out for walks with out her trying to attack other dogs or people that frighten her. She is building confidence with each session. Thanks DTE for helping me keep my dog at home were she belongs.— Michelle Alcas

Dog Training Elite is the best training program that I have done. My dog has learned so much and still going to learn through the training. While he has learned a lot, it has been a great training for me and my other family members. The trainers stress the importance of practice and I am telling you that practice is the key. Many people whether in the neighborhood or at my work are impressed by how well behaved my dog is is many situations. I would highly recommend this training to everyone who is looking for great training. It is well worth the money you pay.— Ed Morris

We are super happy with bringing on the professionals at Elite. With their educate, training, guidance and support we feel success with our Border Collie who has a reactive history. Elite has trained us to train him, now not only do we have confidence so does our Border Collie. They were even able to work with our Border Collie and give him touchable praise, impressive considering his past. Positive reinforcement and praise is stressed and is key. Coming to the home has been a great benefit. Looking forward to the park groups. Highly recommend Elite!!— Valerie Rios

Colleen and her husband run a wonderful, loving dog training business. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and kind. My 5 month old pup is amazing! I get compliments when I take him to stores as he is more well behaved then a lot of the older dogs. I love that they come to you and teach you in your home. They respond well to emails or text with concerns or questions. I recommend using their trainers and methods. Trust the programs and you will have a wonderful dog to love forever! Well worth every penny spent!— Olivia Andrew

Colleen and Dan of dog training elite northern Utah are excellent dog trainers. My Rottweiler puppy Schatzi was difficult and with a lot of attention deficit disorder. The very first training class Colleen taught Schatzi “off” and got her to stop ankle biting and chewing on things she shouldn’t chew on- it was like a “magic bullet”. Also what is great is they taught me how to train Schatzi so that I can keep sharpening Schatzi’s skills. Schatzi is now 7 months old and I can walk her without a leash and she responds totally to voice commands. I can point to her bed and she will go lie down. If you want to get the most out of your dog and have lots of fun doing it, I highly recommend using Colleen and Dan of “Dog Training Elite Northern Utah” Sincerely, Alec Harwin— Alec Harwin

We simply cannot say enough good things about Colleen and Dan!! We enlisted Dog Training Elite for our puppies Charlie (a Cockapoo ~8 months old - who was a major terror before) and his little sister Belle (a Bernedoodle ~4 months completely untrained and getting bigger by the day) We were absolutely blown away by the dog they brought to our house for the demo - we immediately signed up, and were not disappointed!! Colleen showed up for the first at home lesson and blew our mind. She was beyond patient - and Charlie was so disobedient one day we didn’t get through the entire lesson for both dogs and she offered to come back an extra time. (Side note: Colleen did not give up - she did get Charlie to obey the commend “Place” and he was rockstar after!!) We met her husband Dan for the first time at the park class (after the 5 at home lessons), and his passion for, and ability, with dogs is unmatched (Dog Whisperer 2…but really - Cesar Milan anyone?!) He even got my puppy Charlie to sit on a stool in the snow, which we thought was IMPOSSIBLE!! And he got Belle to walk onto the jungle gym and go down the slide (UNREAL!) Not only did they train our dogs but they also took the time to train us, which was probably even more difficult. Also important to note the park class was a phenomenal way to meet other dog owners and build a community and friends. If the above wasn’t enough, we wanted to see our family in HI for the holidays and the puppies were not old enough to come (rabies vaccines + COVID = impossible) - we almost did not go see my family because the thought of leaving the dogs with ANYONE would not do - especially after the training, we did not want them to regress! Not to mention, if you could see how pampered Charlie and Belle are (we do not yet have kids, so they are our kids), you would understand the helicopter parenting my boyfriend and I have over the dogs + the amount we spoil them - they are everything — boarding would not do! — and then here came Colleen and Dan!! :) They took both puppies (note: neither Charlie or Belle were not crate trained or trained to eat set meals) into their home with their 3 dogs (1 of which was also a puppy) and made Charlie and Belle apart of their family for 4 WEEKS!!! During the holidays!!! On top of that - we had originally planned on only being gone 2.5-3 weeks and extended the stay while we were there, which Colleen and Dan welcomed with open arms— Katie Anderson
