Dog training elite, northern utah was the best thing that I've done. I love my dogs and putting in the money and effort is worth every penny. They have private training sessions to individualize to you and your dog's needs. I also love group classes where we get to interact with other dogs and owners and challenge and train your dog in a safe space. 💯 recommend!! All trainers are wonderful but Trevor was my trainer and I'm so grateful for the confidence and genuine care he gave me and my Griz. Griz is a big ole German Shepard with some fear reactivity mostly around other dogs, but some people as well. While we still have work to do, the difference is night and day. He and I can go out and a find joy and peace in our outings instead of fear. I honestly can't thank them enough.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 – Incredible Transformation! We brought our sassy Pomsky to Dog Training Elite first for obedience training and later for service dog training—and the transformation was almost instant. I could not be more thrilled with the results. The improvement in her skills, focus, and confidence has been amazing. Every single trainer we’ve worked with genuinely loves what they do and treats every dog as if it were their own. The ongoing support, group classes, and follow-up have made all the difference. You can tell this company truly cares about both the dogs and their owners. I recommend Dog Training Elite over and over again—they’ve completely exceeded our expectations and given us a better-behaved, happier dog (and owners!).

Dog Training Elite Northern Utah... has been the most fullfiling experience. Our dogs have been so much better behaved. We still have some issues but once the command has been given to the dog even if it still takes a minute for it to register; it is so much better than before. We were getting frustrated with the dogs not listening. Now its day and night with them. Oh and the best thing besides that, is the employees who work for them. They are outstanding, super awesome, and the absolute best trainers I've worked with. I had one before but with that one it was hurry and get the training done. These guys will answer with empathy, professionalism and understanding. They are a joy to be around. The money spent was the best investment I have made. Thank you and God bless them with their knowledge and safety.

I have worked with Elite dogs for almost two years. I needed a mobility dog because I have little upper body strength and walk with assisted devices. I have a 1.5 yo male lab who is bred for service. He is incredible and with the help of Elite dogs giving me back my independence. The end goal is to have him on a harness to hold me up and to fetch items for me. To that end I sought the help from Elite dogs. It’s a great program, very comprehensive, combining group play with other dogs and private lessons as well. The owner participates. I am very pleased with the results from having our puppy attend Dog Training Elite. I honestly was hesitant at first because our pup can be a lot to handle and I didn't think she'd adjust to being okay with being away from home during the week training sessions. However, the staff accommodated her wonderfully, loved her as if she were their own dog and I'm amazed by how well mannered and trained she is now!!! I highly recommend them. Very polite, professional and above all kind to your beloved pet.

Dog Training Elite Northern Utah Training Center, has the greatest trainers. They are compassionate. understanding, and loves your pet. Melachi (mini Ausie) worked beautifully with the trainers. On a side note: We used them when they use to be Elite. John was our trainer and he helped me train our Ausie Barrion to be my mothers service dog. He was wonderful and loved Barrion. Words cannot express the deepest sense of gratitude I have for Dog Training Elite Northern Utah. Our puppy Sage was completely unmanageable. We had basically lost hope and were at our wits end, unsure of what our next step was with her. Thankfully, we found DTENU. They trained us in the art of handling our puppy. They listened to our concerns and we re always available for feedback or any questions we had. A few months ago I brought our puppy a Frenchie and Boston mixed Arlo to be accessed. I wanted to know if he would make a good service/therapy dog for my PTSD as a combat veteran. Colleen the owner met with me and Arlo that day. She did the assessment and showed us what kind of discipline we could expect from the training with another of her dogs. I was pleased to find out Arlo had the right temperament for the training. He was still a bit young so we had to wait some months before he would be mature enough for the training to be effective. Colleen and her team worked with me on the costs and a payment plan. They stayed in touch and reached out when Arlo was old enough. We started to schedule his training for 3 weeks there at the center. Our situation changed and so we are moving to Florida in about a month. Colleen felt that although we could get his training at the center done in 3 weeks. The ongoing support and additional group training would not be enough time. She reached out to another franchisee in Florida where we are moving and made sure we could start the training there with them and be able to have the close community and ongoing support. I really appreciate her taking the time to make sure mine and Arlo's best interest were put first over closing a sale. I appreciate the respect and courtesy given to me in my situation. We sent our collie here to a week of training and from the first day I could not believe the change in her. Everyone is great and they are training us to continue what she learned. I was referred from a friend who sent her dog here for training. I highly recommend the training. Every dog who attended with our dog did great as each dog showed what they learned at the end of the week. Spectacular!

As soon as my wire haired pointer started training it was a noticeable difference and at the end of the first week it was night and day difference like she was a completely different dog. They do absolutely fantastic with their training and keep very good communication with everything and anything you could possibly need! 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to get their pup trained!

What a wonderful day that was!! They found me a dog, and now Clyde and I have finished our first year together. The team is fantastic and I was skeptical. These guys are truly wonderful to work with. They helped me train my German Shepherd as a PTSD service animal. They also had a lot of one on one sessions with my dog and then again with my dog and I. What an awesome group of trainers! Mac is an awesome diabetic alert dog and we paid a lot less going this route instead of buying an already trained dog. Dan and Hailey helped us train Mac to alert and also to obey simple commands. They give you 110% dedication to help train your dog. This was a much better and cheaper solution to getting a service animal. I am at ease knowing that Mac is capable of saving my son’s life if he needs to. If you are considering a company for dog training go with Dog Training Elite, They Rock!

I can’t thank Hayden and Dog Training Elite. I got Molly, a seven month old Belgian Malinios. She was beyond a handful. After trying to train her for over a year I came to realize this was beyond my capabilities. After she chased the neighbors cows through a barbed wire fence and knew I had to make a choice, either rehome her or get professional help. I saw a veteran with his service dog and asked where he had been trained and I was told Elite Dog Training. I contacted them and met Hayden the next day. We started training and with a lot of patience and really a minimal time. After several weeks of training I decided I wanted her to become a Service Dog. We then went on to the specialized training program. It took a while but she was finally able to get her training and became my service dog. Fast forward to now. I recently had to move up to Northern Utah because of my 94 year old father health issues. Because of Molly’s training I can take her with me anywhere. My dad is in the VA Rehabilitation Center in north Ogden and Molly and I ago see him at least 3-4 times a week. She not only brings joy to my dad but also to a lot of the other Veterans who are there. She is my constant companion and I would be lost without her. She still has her quirks, she is a Malinios after all. Because of Hayden and Elite Dog Training I am so grateful.

I have had an excellent experience with Elite (Northern) Dog Training! I love the options that they have; train at center or at home, and lots of group classes. I chose to have the trainers come to my home to work with my puppy. They were very knowledgeable, patient, and had high standards for their training. They showed me exactly how to do each step and we practiced it together. I have been so happy & impressed with my puppy's response to Elite Training! I could see the true passion for dog training that each trainer had. (Trevor is amazing & has such passion for training dogs!) We are starting our group classes and are excited to master skills with lots of real life distractions. I would recommend this training program, and am experiencing great results!

Ginger is a timid two year old rescue dog. Elite taught me that you can teach an old dog new tricks. The e-collar is a gentle training tool. After having several dogs over the years we decided to invest in training for our year old Aussiedoodle. What a great decision. Thanks to the great trainers at Dog Training Elite, Bruno modified several poor behaviors and he is even more of a joy in our home and in public. We weren’t sure it would all work but have been pleasantly surprised how responsive Bruno is to many different commands.

Words can not express how happy I am with the difference in my dog. Zeuz(my dog) was having some behavioral issues that I wanted to fix. After just the first session, people were commenting on how he had changed. How last session was yesterday. The dog he is now from the one he was back in March of this year is crazy! The people that work here are very talented and care about these dogs. Trevor was the one that saw Zeuz the most and I will forever be thankful for him. They are very flexible with scheduling, and if something comes up they are more than happy to switch some things around. You will see fantastic results with these trainers. I can not recommend them enough!

I love Dog Training Elite! Finding them was one of the best things I could have done for me and my dog. We started with basic obedience and he did so so well. They were patient with him and us and taught us what to do and how to do it well to succeed. We are now 9 months into our service training and it's going so well too! This has taken more patience and time to learn but we're asking hard things of my dog and myself 😅 but they are very supportive and patient. They have been so supportive through my whole process. At first, I wasn’t sure if a service dog could help me and at the consultation they taught me all of the ways a dog could help me and recommended some breeds that would be a good fit. Then Colleen drove 3 hours to the breeder to do the temperament test on 2 potential puppies to make sure whichever we chose would be able to handle the training and expectations of his job. Then the hard part of picking between 2 adorable puppies … that was on us 😜. Training started 3 days after bringing the puppy home. Starting with the absolute basics! Through the puppy training, basic obedience and now public access we have worked with multiple trainers who are all aware of my needs and our pup’s personality. They have all been knowledgeable, kind, and patient with our pup and with me and all of my questions. Before this, I’ve never had a dog that would walk with a loose leash, now I have a 5 month old pup that everyone asks how he became so well behaved and stays by my side!!! I tell everyone about Dog Training Elite of Northern Utah! I can’t recommend them enough for all types of training, but especially for potential service dog needs.

We have husky pups and I knew they were going to be a challenge. We have had 2 lessons so far and the pups have done a great job! They learn so much on each lesson. They work hard and are more mellow which helps them to sleep well after the lessons. Ryan has been very helpful. He is knowledgeable and knows how to address the dog's problems! The class is fun for the dogs because it helps with their behavior as well as all of us meeting new people. Great training class!

They’ve been with us every step of the way before we even got our puppy! In fact they were the ones that recommended the breeder we got Mula from. And she’s been the most wonderful dog from the day we met her from 6 weeks old. At around 8 weeks we had Mula home and dog training elite was there 1 week later to start training. Colleen, Melonie, Selena, Hailey, Bri & Fona. All of them are lovely and so pleasant to work with. Anytime I text them I get a super fast response back. In fact I think I reached out one night and was surprised to get a reply back even though it was like 10pm. They have so much passion for what they do, and some even have their own service animals. And they don’t just do service animal training they do behavioral training too for house dogs. I love their park classes, they make it really engaging for the dogs and so fun for the people too. Last time we played tik tac toe with our dogs lol and musical chairs. Was cool. My dog Mula is now 8 months old and just this last Thursday passed her public access training test!!!! Next up is task training. I always look forward to training sessions! I literally tell everyone about them, they are so great ✨ -Opal

I was really nervous about finding a good company to train my sons service dog & spent months researching. Dog Training Elite was the only one I found that would do at home training. I'm a hands on/observe learner. It was so great to have Melanie & Salena come to my home, show me exactly what to do, & practiced with me until I felt comfortable. They explained the process & answered my questions with kindness. They were always right on time & eager to work with us. They also worked really well with Drake. I feel he did so much better being at his home with me for his basic training. They also answered emails/texts within the same day. They worked well with me to figure out a plan that would work best based on my sons special needs/disability. Drake has now graduated from his basic training & we're excited to start group trainings. Highly recommend Dog Training Elite if you want convenient & professional dog training no matter what services you are looking for.

My dog is still a 5 month old pup and is in training to be my service dog. Every single person that meets her thinks she is just a small dog because they can’t grasp how well behaved she is!!! She is a completely transformed dog from when we first got her. She is still herself 100% but she is so well behaved and listens immaculately thanks to her trainers!!!! The fact that they come to MY HOME to train her has been huge for me especially with these gas prices! They adjust her training to HER too. It’s not just a set training without modifications. They understand that every dog and every owner is different and have such a wide knowledge on owners and dog health and more. They work with you in every aspect, LITERALLY. You think of something, they will work it out with you and they respond so quickly, professionally, and kindly. I truly am blown away with this company, her trainers, and of course my dog! As are everyone that crosses her path. Could not recommend Elite enough. I do want it to be known that we are NOT wealthy! Quite the opposite. But again, they work with you and every single penny is undeniably worth it. If you are considering giving your dog up, DONT. Get them through this training, even just the basics, your frustrations will disappear. I’m certain of that.

The trainers with DTE are amazing. I started training my puppy when she was very small and I have never had such an obedient dog. They build a solid foundation for training and ensure you have all the support you need. They are flexible and work with your schedule.

Highly satisfied!! From our first contact experience with Fona (Admin) and Colleen (Owner/Consultant) we were impressed with their professionalism. Every contact was responsive, respectful, timely, and well managed. And Salena and Melanie (as our trainers) were fantastic and wonderful. They were equally well-qualified, always on time, personable, helpful, great instructors and friends to my dog Ledger... even when he was acting like a complete canine idiot!! Their training philosophy and use of training techniques was absolutely top notch, and one-on-one sessions were conducted with Ledger's highest good and well-being the priority. Dog Training Elite is absolutely ESSENTIAL for anyone that has been diagnosed with a disability, and needs a service dog. It's stressful enough trying to navigate through a health diagnosis. So you can imagine how daunting it can seem to choose a breed, find a reputable breeder, asminister temperament testing to your service prospect, work through multiple training levels with the prospect puppy, and finally passing public access with personalized task training. Dog Training Elite makes the entire process as simple, and as pain free as possible. My service dog Jin is just over a year old and and is fully trained and certified for both CPTSD and Medical Alert Service (POTS). In a very short time, they have helped me turn my silly little puppy into the most crucial, and dependable companion I've ever had. I'm not joking when I say this dog has literally saved my life, more than once, and it's all thanks to them. It has been a great experience working with dog training elite (especially Trevor). Roman (my doberman) used try to pull me down the street when we took him for a walk. Now I can run with him and he stays right beside me. I can even walk him without a leash and he stays right at my side. All their staff have been great to work with!

We have had such a great experience with Dog Training Elite. We've had three different trainers work with our very anxious 2 year old boxer. When we started we couldn't safely walk him. We have now walked to a park full of kids, scooters, and people and he held a down! Money well spent!

Where do I start? I can’t begin to explain the extent to which Dan and Colleen have gone to help me personally. I could tell a long drawn out story but the take away here is that these people aren’t just dog trainers, they are some of the finest, selfless humans to walk this Earth. I’m a disabled veteran with PTSD. They gave me my life back by placing me with a service dog who has changed our life in short order. Melanie, our trainer has been amazing, even helping us with care and tips our training our other dog. Instead of adopting a dog into my family, I feel like I’ve been adopted into their family.

I was ready to rehome my aggressive pitbull. But through working with Salena I love my dog again and I am able to take her out for walks without her trying to attack other dogs or people that frighten her. Dog Training Elite is the best training program that I have done. My dog has learned so much and still going to learn through the training. While he has learned a lot, it has been a great training for me and my other family members. The trainers stress the importance of practice and I am telling you that practice is the key. Many people whether in the neighborhood or at my work are impressed by how well behaved my dog is is many situations. I would highly recommend this training to everyone who is looking for great training. It is well worth the money you pay.

We are super happy with bringing on the professionals at Elite. With their educate, training, guidance and support we feel success with our Border Collie who has a reactive history. Elite has trained us to train him, now not only do we have confidence so does our Border Collie. They were even able to work with our Border Collie and give him touchable praise, impressive considering his past. Positive reinforcement and praise is stressed and is key. Coming to the home has been a great benefit. Looking forward to the park groups. Highly recommend Elite!!

Colleen and Dan of dog training elite northern Utah are excellent dog trainers. My Rottweiler puppy Schatzi was difficult and with a lot of attention deficit disorder. The very first training class Colleen taught Schatzi “off” and got her to stop ankle biting and chewing on things she shouldn’t chew on- it was like a “magic bullet”. Also what is great is they taught me how to train Schatzi so that I can keep sharpening Schatzi’s skills. Schatzi is now 7 months old and I can walk her without a leash and she responds totally to voice commands. I can point to her bed and she will go lie down. If you want to get the most out of your dog and have lots of fun doing it, I highly recommend using Colleen and Dan of “Dog Training Elite Northern Utah” Sincerely, Alec Harwin

We simply cannot say enough good things about Colleen and Dan!! We enlisted Dog Training Elite for our puppies Charlie (a Cockapoo ~8 months old - who was a major terror before) and his little sister Belle (a Bernedoodle ~4 months completely untrained and getting bigger by the day) We were absolutely blown away by the dog they brought to our house for the demo - we immediately signed up, and were not disappointed!! Colleen showed up for the first at home lesson and blew our mind. She was beyond patient - and Charlie was so disobedient one day we didn’t get through the entire lesson for both dogs and she offered to come back an extra time. (Side note: Colleen did not give up - she did get Charlie to obey the commend “Place” and he was rockstar after!!) We met her husband Dan for the first time at the park class (after the 5 at home lessons), and his passion for, and ability, with dogs is unmatched (Dog Whisperer 2…but really - Cesar Milan anyone?!) He even got my puppy Charlie to sit on a stool in the snow, which we thought was IMPOSSIBLE!! And he got Belle to walk onto the jungle gym and go down the slide (UNREAL!) Not only did they train our dogs but they also took the time to train us, which was probably even more difficult. Also important to note the park class was a phenomenal way to meet other dog owners and build a community and friends. If the above wasn’t enough, we wanted to see our family in HI for the holidays and the puppies were not old enough to come (rabies vaccines + COVID = impossible) - we almost did not go see my family because the thought of leaving the dogs with ANYONE would not do - especially after the training, we did not want them to regress! Not to mention, if you could see how pampered Charlie and Belle are (we do not yet have kids, so they are our kids), you would understand the helicopter parenting my boyfriend and I have over the dogs + the amount we spoil them - they are everything — boarding would not do! — and then here came Colleen and Dan!! :) They took both puppies (note: neither Charlie or Belle were not crate trained or trained to eat set meals) into their home with their 3 dogs (1 of which was also a puppy) and made Charlie and Belle apart of their family for 4 WEEKS!!! During the holidays!!! On top of that - we had originally planned on only being gone 2.5-3 weeks and extended the stay while we were there, which Colleen and Dan welcomed with open arms

Colleen and Dan are fantastic trainers! They have been patiently training me to help my Coda, an excitable 8yo boxer, become a calm and well behaved dog. The training has made a huge difference in Coda... Dan and Colleen provided training for my son’s service dog. The training allowed my son to be able to leave home and attend college. Colleen Tvorik
Owner & Trainer - DTE Northern Utah
Colleen grew up in Lansing, Michigan with parents who bred and co-owned Golden Retrievers with a professional trainer who specialized in field trial retrievers and obedience. She can't remember a time when a retriever in training was not actively a part of her family. During her teens, Colleen got her first taste of training service puppies, when her family acted as a puppy raiser for, Coco, a Chocolate Lab who went on to pass training with Leader Dogs for the Blind and ended up with a recipient in Spain.
In addition to working with Golden's, Colleen also grew up near a horse farm, where she taught riding lessons for a Hunter/Jumper Horse Show Barn. Her experience working with horses allowed her another view at the powerful connection animals large and small might have with humans.
Colleen moved to Utah after obtaining a degree in Environment Journalism at Michigan State University and worked in Customer Service Management in the Hospitality and Software Industries. While living in Park City, Utah after college, Colleen got back to her canine roots as a popular dog sitter for several families.
When Colleen met her husband, Dan, and moved to Salt Lake City years ago, the couple happened upon a puppy in Central Utah that excelled within the Dog Training Elite program. Initially, as Dog Training Elite clients, Colleen and Dan realized how special the Dog Training Elite program was and how much fun it would allow them to have with their dogs! Colleen and Dan loved the training so much, they would go on to become trainers for Dog Training Elite and volunteers for The Malinois Foundation, training and placing service dogs with those in need.
Colleen used her puppy experience as a youth to specialize in the developmental training for the over 14 puppies she's had a hand in training over the last several years. She's excited to help her clients find and train their perfect canine companion!
When Colleen isn't training dogs, she is an avid outdoor enthusiast who loves skiing, hiking, biking and paddleboarding in Northern Utah with her dogs.
Dan Hutchings
Owner & Trainer - DTE Northern Utah
Born and raised in Utah, Dan's family always had multiple dogs that would accompany the family on trips to the mountains and deserts, including Lake Powell. As a teenager, Dan frequently visited his grandfather's farm in South Jordan and developed a passion for working with animals.
After graduating from the University of Utah, Dan volunteered for Greyhound Pets of America, fostering and rehabilitating retired Greyhounds.
After meeting and training with Dog Training Elite Founder, John Mestas, in 2012, Dan found a true passion for training and helping clients and dogs alike! He now specializes in task-specific training for service dogs and specialized, advanced training for his clients.
Dan is an avid runner, skier and outdoor adventurer who in his spare time enjoy's exploring new places with his dogs!
Trevor Ruff
Trainer
Trevor discovered a love for animals at an early age. He went to Veterinarian School, but found that he had a real love for training specifically. So, he decided to enroll in Animal Behavioral College, and graduated and became a certified dog trainer.
Since then, he has donated his time to adoption clinics, training dogs with behavioral problems to help them get placed, and has donated his time to The Malinois Foundation, training service animals for people in need.
Trevor has become the lead trainer at Dog Training Elite and enjoys training dogs to very high levels and improving the relationship between our clients and their dogs.
Melanie Harker
Trainer
Born and raised in Utah, Melanie has grown up having quite a bit of animals in her household (Hamsters, gerbils, rabbits, fish, turtles, snakes, cats, and dogs). She loves all animals and in particular has a deep passion for dogs.
Melanie has worked at two different vet clinics taking care of the cats and dogs boarding and also managing a doggy daycare of 25+ dogs all together with just herself alone. This allowed her to learn the science of dog behavior over the full 15 years of experience dealing with all different breed types and sizes. While she worked with dogs every day, the kennel setting didn’t allow her to fully train and help dogs with their behavior. With all of her experience, she wanted to expand her love for dogs and joined the DTE Northern Utah team to fulfill a personal dream.
In her spare time, Melanie loves to be outdoors up in the mountains camping or hiking with her dogs all year round. She also loves art and likes to draw.
