The Benefits of Puppy Training

Our classes help your pup grow into a well-behaved dog. Here are a few benefits you can expect from choosing our elite training:

  • Deepen Your Bond With Your Puppy: Training your puppy – and continuing training with new tricks as they get older – is a great way to bond closely. Puppies have a natural desire to please and will learn to rely on you for guidance and direction, establishing a foundation of trust and love.
  • Socialize Your Dog: Obedience training, especially with group classes, helps dogs become comfortable and well-socialized around other dogs and people. This is important for when you want to take your dog on walks or invite people into your home.
  • Improve Your Dog’s Safety: Training your dog to listen and obey your commands will help them stay safe in any situation. Learning commands like “down,” “leave it,” “stop,” and “wait” can keep your dog safe from messing with dangerous things like electrical cords and other situations outdoors.
  • Provide Mental Stimulation: Good dogs can become bad dogs if they don’t have a way to work out physical and mental energy. Training as a lifelong pursuit is a great way to challenge your dog mentally and keep them engaged.

My niece has a 110 lb. Chesapeake Bay Retriever (Benji) that at the beginning of training was out of control aggressive. In our first evaluation meeting with Marshall, I was so impressed that I told the gal at the office that we would wait for an opening in his schedule rather than opt for another trainer. Marshall's consistency, understanding of what our family requires, and his ability to work with many different types of dogs is amazing. I have a 68 lb Leopard Catahoula (Gracie) that we needed Benji to play nice with. Marshal, with expertise, patience and grace showed us how to make this happen. He always puts safety first. He has also agreed to give us some tips on integrating a third dog that regularly visits, a 25 lb. Mini Poodle, Yorkie, Shih Tzu designer dog (Ewok). I simply can't say enough about Marshall's level of professionalism, his calmness in handling not only the dogs, but the owners as well. He has given my niece so much more of a sense of confidence in herself and her ability to manage her dog. I'll try to post some pics later.

Today, I was expecting Laydon, again. But Kurtis showed up. Kurtis had a laid back approach about dealing with dogs. He wasn't being stupid about Shortie. He was aware that Shortie could bite him. (I too thought, Shortie could bite someone). I felt I could understand his way of dealing with dogs. Anyway, I will work on this for my and Shortie's mental health.

Niko has improved so much since the first training session. Jocy and Alaina have been great. Jocy has taught us how to be more assertive and helped us to hold ourselves accountable. She is not afraid of correct us lol we love her. Alaina was great allowing us to have Niko be trained by her dog and very helpful with the tips as well. My partner and I can’t find words to appreciate their work with us. Niko love them and have so much fun with the training. Thank you soooo much!!

My wife and I adopted a sweet, 1.5 year old Shih Tzu from a local animal rescue. We both owned dogs growing up, but this was the first dog that we could truly call ours. Consequently, Rizzo was also the first dog we were 100% responsible for training and taking care of. The first few days were ok, but then we quickly ran into major issues with crate training and serious separation anxiety. Every night and every time we left for work, Rizzo refused to go in her crate. When we placed here in there, she always withheld some pee, despite frequent walks and a watering schedule. Soon we found ourselves in a cycle of soiled crates, constant baths, and a permanent sense of anxiety and stress for everyone in the house. We reached out to Brad, who scheduled a free in-home consultation with the whole family. Out of the eight trainers I reached out to in the Middle Tennessee region, he and one other were the only ones who responded promptly and positively. Brad impressed us during the consultation because he did not try to upsell us on the most expensive plan, instead picking one that he thought was best for us and Rizzo. We ended up going with a plan that featured five total one-on-one, in-home sessions. There was notable improvement after the first session. Brad didn't rush us to schedule the second session, instead encouraging us to take our time working on the principles he established during that first visit. He also encouraged us to text and call with any isses we had during the week. I took full advantage of this, sending multiple emails, videos, and texts while we worked together. Brad always responded promptly and with action steps I could try implementing then and there. By his second visit a couple weeks later, we were able to get Rizzo to go in and out of the crate on her own. By the fourth session, we had solved the crate-soiling issue. We made so much progress that we were able to spend the last two sessions working on basic obedience. All of us are so much happier than we were before! I fully recommend working with Brad. If you listen to what he says, take notes, pay attention to how he is training your dog, and faithfully do your homework, I don't see how there wouldn't be an improvement in your dog's overall behaviour. Actively engaging and being a participant in the dog training process is key: my wife and I worked with Rizzo every night, thirty minutes a night. Just like with a personal trainer, you can't expect to see results if you aren't willing to put in the sweat equity. We do not regret our decision at all, so if you are on the fence or in a similar situation, you can't go wrong contacting Brad!

We cannot express enough how this training changed our dog Mickey for the better. Mickey had no confidence before the in facility training classes. He enjoys learning and he is so happy since his confidence has soared. Every one of the trainers were so knowledgeable and knew exactly how to read Mickey and knew what he needed to respond to commands. It was amazing from day one to see the transformation in our dog. He shows a calmness now yet a readiness to please. He does not jump on company any longer when they arrive. It is such a pleasure to take him on walks as he is attentive and enjoys hearing the command to heel. We thought that was enough in itself but the other commands that were taught such as sit, down, place and off have become second nature to him in such a very short time. Kevin has come to our home for in home training and has helped tweak a few commands this was a tremendous help. Since the training also helps us as owners/trainers we have been able to even do some fun tricks with Mickey such as spin, reverse, high five just to name a few just because he loves to keep learning. Another major change, Mickey never goes on our new furniture any longer when we are not at home once we commanded him off, along with the help of the E Collar this was a fast turn around. We are so pleased with the whole program and tell everyone we know about it as they have seen Mickeys positive changes.

We brought home our puppy Summit in October of 2024 and by May 2025 were so overwhelmed by her energy, difficulty walking on a leash and overall ability to follow commands. We desperately reached out to Dog Training Elite and they were able to start working with us right away. We started seeing results immediately when we implemented what we learned. We’ve done training at home, parks, stores and in groups and all of it has helped Summit (and us!) build confidence when in public. We love her so much but now we truly enjoy and trust each other everywhere we go. Tina is so kind, passionate about her work, patient and knowledgeable. The rest of the staff have also been easy to talk to and wonderful to work with. Every interaction with Dog Training Elite in Panama City has been amazing and informative. We are forever grateful and HIGHLY recommend!!

I got the platinum program for my Chesapeake Bay retriever Marshall is my Trainer, and he has worked wonders with my dog. My dog could not even walk by another dog without jumping on his high heel barking and trying to lunge. Now my dog has learnt to walk by other dogs without reacting and we have only had three private classes. Benji use to try and chase every car that went by. So walking him was difficult. Now we enjoy our walks daily. There is no pulling on the leash. We haven’t even started group yet. I can’t believe how much Benji has changed with putting my trust into Marshall. Also Marshall teaching me that if I am calm in training my dog will follow my lead. I have gone through other trainers and we have never been able to do none of this stuff. I would highly recommend anybody who was looking for dog training to go through Elite dog training and ask for Marshall. You will have a dog that you can live your best life with your buddy because Elite trainers will give you the tools you need. Thank you so much Marshall for all you have done for Benji and I!

Dog Training Elite is the best dog training facility we have ever worked with. We have a very smart dog with a lot of weird quirks and habits that they have helped us navigate with ease. Azure and Alexa are the trainer we’ve worked with. They are both so knowledgeable and great with communication. Our questions are always thoroughly answered. We’ve gotten so much insight and value out of working with them. The training process is very structured and easy for the dogs and humans to pick up. The trainers are also very good at giving specific feedback and tips based on how the dog responds during the sessions. It’s impressive how it can be such a methodical process to ensure the skills are taught in the best order, and also take into account how each specific dog is responding and pivoting to exactly they need. It’s been a great mix of learning a base understanding from the trainers, and being given homework so us human handlers actually learn what to do as well. Scheduling is super easy as well. Caitlin responds quickly and it’s so nice to be able to communicate with a person instead of a chat bot lol I couldn’t recommend this company more. It’s been such a relief to have found them!

Training Essentials for Your Puppy

Here are a few puppy training tips from the expert team at Dog Training Elite! If you have any questions or want to see these methods in action, give us a call. We are more than happy to show you a demonstration and provide you with a glimpse of what our professional team can do!

At Dog Training Elite, we believe in positive reinforcement and yummy treats do the trick! We recommend a high-quality, berry-sized reward that your puppy will enjoy. Rewarding your dog while training teaches them that you approve of that behavior and maintains their motivation to perform well.
Because you’ll be handing out lots of treats, you will probably want a treat bag or pouch. There are many options out there with different sizes, shapes, and ways to carry. The benefit of getting a treat pouch is the ease of access and the ability to reward your puppy quickly. If you aren’t interested in getting a treat pouch, we recommend getting a small bag to carry you puppy’s rewards.
A clicker is a great tool to have along with rewards when training a puppy. With a clicker, you can immediately provide a positive sound when your dog performs a correct behavior, and then you can reward them with a treat. Pairing a clicker with treats is a great way to instill positive reinforcement because you teach your dog that they get a treat when they hear a click. You can buy many kinds of clickers at your local pet store, and they even have helpful clicker apps.
A good leash is another essential when bringing home a new puppy. We suggest a leash made of a durable material like leather and about 6 feet long to allow for comfortable room for both of you. Training your dog on a leash will set you up for fun walks in the future, keep your dog safe, and prevent them from getting lost while out of the house. It is also beneficial for an excited puppy who wants to run around and play while training.
You'll need a sturdy collar or harness to attach a leash while training. Deciding between a flat collar or body harness is up to your personal preference, but it is good to consider your dog's comfort and demeanor. A collar is necessary while training and for safety while out and about. A collar/harness is also the best place to attach the identification for your puppy. If anything happened to your dog, you'd be glad you had a collar with your information on it!
Getting a dog crate is a great way to housetrain your puppy. You will want to get a durable and safe crate for your dog that has enough room for them to be comfortable. You want the crate to be a place of calm and safety for your dog, not a punishment zone. Getting your puppy crate trained gives you a safe space in your home to keep them while they are unsupervised and also prevents unwanted behaviors like chewing or peeing inside.
