Living a balanced and independent life with chronic illness is not usually easy. Alert dogs for these individuals provide the stability, safety and support that allows for increased activity and peace of mind. Dog Training Elite offers free in-home evaluations to assess if a current family dog can be trained to become a medical alert service dog or can help you select a dog for training. Examples of medical alert dog tasks include but are not limited to:
- Alerting to Blood Sugar Levels / Medical Episodes
- Retrieving Medicine
- Altering Others / Getting Help
- Medical Response & Mitigation
- Additional tasks as needed, must be approved by trainer
About Diabetes Assistance Dogs
A diabetic alert service dog is trained to identify the subtle changes in an individual’s blood chemistry and alert them or their caregivers to low blood sugar before critical symptoms occur. Individuals who would benefit from a diabetic alert dog may experience:
- Hypoglycemia Unawareness
- Control Blood Sugar with Insulin
- Frequent Hypoglycemia (Particularly at Night)

Our Balanced Theory
We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. I can not recommend Dog Training Elite DTE) strong enough!!!! From day 1 the changes in my dog’s behavior blew me away. My Akita knew the basics and was a very good dog but I wanted an exceptional dog. A dog that would protect me or my family when needed but also he needed to be on his best behavior at ALL times. My training began with Karen (an excellent trainer with a natural gift to communicate with your furry best friend) Now we are working directly with Neil and everyday I feel like we are moving leaps and bounds. Savanna with dog Training Elite is amazing! She is very patient and friendly to my overly hyper dog Cairo. She’s also very knowledgeable about training dogs and always provided the reason they train they way they do, which for me is very important.She explains in great detail and is always willing to help and give advice.
