Epilepsy is a common disorder, affecting approximately 3.4 million Americans. Living with epilepsy can be difficult for many individuals. Due to fear of falling or other consequences related to seizures, many epileptic individuals will avoid going out in public. This greatly reduces quality of life and independence. Fortunately, service dogs can be trained to assist those with epilepsy. A Medical Response Dog is able to alert their caretaker and anyone nearby of an imminent seizure and protect their caretaker from injury or falling. The Americans with Disabilities Act allows individuals with disabilities, such as epilepsy, to bring service dogs anywhere with them in public spaces. The assistance of a Medical Response Dog can empower those with epilepsy and increase their quality of life.
Dogs have the ability to detect changes in an individual’s smell right before an epileptic attack, which allows them to effectively warn their caretakers. Almost any dog can be trained to act as a Medical Response Dog if they have the right temperament. If you or a loved one suffer from epilepsy, a Medical Response Dog training program can be life changing. Dog Training Elite offers a specialized Medical Response Dog training program in Boston.

The Medical Response Dog Training Program in Boston
For specialized training, it is best to start with puppies. Our Medical Response Dog training program is intensive and prepares your dog for a life of service. Service dogs must have a calm temperament and they must be first trained in obedience. Dogs that have aggressive, shy, or disobedient characteristics cannot be service dogs. After completing obedience programs, service dogs must undergo specialized skill training. An expert assessment will determine whether or not the dog is suited for medical alert services at this point. If so, they dog will be trained to detect oncoming seizures and warn the epileptic individual. Medical Response Dogs warn their caretakers in various ways, including: barking, close eye contact, pawing or licking, and or circling. Additional behaviors can be taught to protect the caretaker, such as breaking a fall by standing behind the individual, turning on lights or opening doors, and alerting others to the situation.
If you are looking for a Medical Response Dog training program in Boston to assist an individual with epilepsy, Dog Training Elite is here to help. Our expert trainers are experienced with various types of service dog training programs. Medical Response service dogs can bring independence, increased quality of love, and companionship.

Our Balanced Theory
We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.
-
Empowering Owners
We empower Owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times. -
Personalized

We work with all members of the household. -
Simplified & Customized

The best decision we ever made for our sweet Augusta, was to work with Dog Training Elite. We had the most incredible training provided by Matt. Matt's dedication, passion, support and expertise are second to none. The training is as much for the humans as it is for the dog. Maybe more. I learned a ton, and I've bonded with my best friend Augusta like I never could have imagined. Thank you!!!— Red Curry

From our first lesson, when Marcus was able to pat my dog, Gracie, I knew I made the right choice for a dog trainer. Only 2-4 people have been able to touch her since I’ve had her (6 years). Needless to say, I was amazed. We also worked with Jaime. She was great to work with as well with home sessions and a couple sessions at Home Depot, where Gracie handled the noise and people really well. I highly recommend Dog Training Elite!— Robin Mael

I highly recommend Dog Training Elite!! I got my dog, Mabel, in December of 2022, and she was a rescue who came from a high-kill shelter. She experienced trauma and never had a real home, and she was very reactive and afraid of other dogs. I live downtown, where there are so many loud and scary things for a nervous doggo. I spent the first few months very stressed and afraid every time I walked her. Going from a shelter to living in a busy city was difficult for her to handle. I finally started contacting dog trainers, and Dog Training Elite was the only one who offered to come to our home and conduct a free assessment. I could tell immediately that Marcus cared for my dog and wanted to see her happy. With the assistance of the E collar and Prong Collar and consistent training on my part with Mabel at least five days a week, I am so happy to say that Mabel's reactivity rarely happens anymore. Marcus and the other fantastic trainers at DTE have truly changed our lives. Using both the E collar and Prong collar made the most significant difference for us, and I am so grateful that the trainers were there to teach me how to use these tools properly. Training with DTE's guidance has made my and Mabel's relationship stronger and has led me to know now how to maintain the training and continue it. We are currently working on off-leash training with her now and going to group classes! I highly recommend all the trainers at DTE. They are all very knowledgeable, will answer any questions, will work around your schedule and come to you, and they all genuinely care for your dog, which is fantastic! If you are looking for any training for your dog, they should be your first call!— Laurie Shorrosh

Nyla loves her weekly meet-ups with pups her own age. She otherwise wouldn’t have that socialization opportunity. She’s almost done with puppy classes, graduating to adult training. Very exciting! Thank you, Marcus and Michaela, for your patience, commitment, and love for our rambunctious Va’Nyla Bean.—
