Dog Training Elite in Raleigh / Cary, NC

Frequently Asked Questions

General
One of our trainers will visit your home to meet you and your dog and discuss any issues you're facing. We will then demonstrate one of our model dogs so you can see what you can expect after hiring our trainers. From there, we will discuss the various packages we offer and which we feel best suit your (and your dog's) needs.
The answer to this is in how the technology of "shock" collars (as they were called in the past) has changed a lot since they originated several years ago. The stimulation in the electronic collars we use is much like a TENS unit and provides a tapping sensation that is used to get the dog's attention on a very low level. We use a brand called Dogtra. We do not use "shock" collars, but electronic collars employed by the top obedience trainers around the world and in Raleigh / Cary.
No. We use electronic collars to get the dogs attention only. When you work around distractions (which is one of our main focuses), keeping your dog's attention is paramount. The collar, combined with positive reinforcement (we like to use praise), help create a positive learning environment in Raleigh / Cary for your dog.
In most cases, the collar will run at about $250, without tax, but is subject to market fluctuation in Raleigh / Cary.
No, but your dog will wear it a lot in the beginning. The objective is to create a conditioned response with your dog; meaning that when you say 'sit', your dog sits automatically without thinking about it first. Much like Pavlov's Dogs or Pavlovian Conditioning, we create a reflex response to you giving a command using the electronic collar. That being said, after your dog is "collar-conditioned", you will be able to remove the collar and still have a dog that will be obedient.
We provide full obedience training that covers all basic commands, both on and off-leash. Our in-home visits target specific issues like counter-surfing, digging, and more. Unlike some trainers, we work with all breeds, including those often considered challenging.
Yes. You (and anyone in your family who wants to be involved) are integral to your dog getting trained. We need you to practice 5-6 days a week, about 15-20 minutes a day for optimal results.
Once a week. We come to you (with the silver, gold and platinum packages) once a week to start your dog off, then you come to park sessions which are held once a week in Raleigh / Cary.
To effectively resolve specific issues, we need to start with a solid foundation in obedience. This approach helps you become a confident leader for your dog, which is key to addressing and preventing behavioral problems.
Nope. Those are dangerous grounds to tread upon. We'd much rather train a vicious dog!
We train dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Whether your dog is a tiny Chihuahua or a large Mastiff, we have the experience and expertise to work with them.
Yes. Working with and controlling aggression is one of our specialties in Raleigh / Cary.
We focus on training companion dogs for veterans and individuals with PTSD and other psychological conditions. In addition to service animals, we also train therapy dogs that visit hospitals, nursing homes, and treatment centers.
To be a service dog, your dog needs to have an even temperament. Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Standard Poodles, Goldendoodles, etc. typically have a great temperament for service work. For some types of service work, your dog will need to have AKC certifications (such as Canine Good Citizen or Community Canine) which we are able to certify. As always, we would be happy to assess your dog's aptitude for service work for free!

Elite dog training is an exceptional dog training organization! I love working with Cindy, she is an excellent trainer! She is very patient and kind while also assertive with my dog. I love that with this program we do a lot of the training in my home where my dog is most comfortable and then as she learns new skills, we take her outside and then with a group. Groove training is available every Saturday and you are invited to meet with them even if you have graduated. I recommend training your dog with elite dog training!

Dog Training Elite is an amazing company with amazing people! They helped me train my dog Odin as a Service Animal and there isn't a single negative thing I can say. They're all very friendly and Alexx is an amazing trainer!!! She is very knowledgeable, kind, and personable. I 100% recommend them to anyone - whether you're looking for service dog training or basic obedience.

We’ve had our dog with DTE for the past 6 months and seen huge improvements as he is a poodle puppy and we needed him to be a service dog. Alex is the all-star team member and the trainer you’d want to prepare your family. Alex makes herself available for questions we have outside our sessions, is on time, friendly and goes the extra mile during Saturday classes at the park where our dog learns from other dogs/handlers.

This training saved our poor dog! Virginia was always so anxious. We tried everything we could think of including local dog training where you go to their facility. It wasn’t until Alexx came to our home that the light bulb went off for us as owners. She needed to be taught what she was supposed to do. Once Alexx started training Virginia, everything clicked. Now she is so happy to lucky and rarely shows signs of anxiety. She goes to her designated “place,” she doesn’t bark, she walks on a leash without pulling, and is very well behaved. In home dog training is the way to go and we highly recommend Dog Training Elite!

Cindy and Alexx are very responsive and helpful! Our “pandemic puppy” had become a terror and was extremely reactive around other people and dogs. When our teen wanted to get a service dog, we knew we needed help with our current pup before we could even consider bringing another dog into the household. Once our family started working with Alexx, we noticed a difference right away. Our pup started responding to commands and visitors to our home noticed how much calmer she had become. Our pup is still a work in progress but Alexx always has helpful suggestions to help us work through every issue. Cindy helped us find a reputable breeder for our daughter’s service dog in training and we will be working with Alexx again to train the new pup! I am so thankful that we found them!

Cindy Skocik
Owner - DTE NC Triangle

Cindy has been a lifelong dog lover, with her first love being her childhood dog Sunshine. Formerly a CPA and business leader, she has always been happiest in her career when her head and heart were engaged in solving problems and improving people’s lives, including her work at a company that treats people with eating disorders and an assisted living company.

Dog Training Elite connects Cindy’s passion for animals and her desire for a service-oriented business that improves people’s lives, as well as providing a way to be connected to the local community.

Outside of work, Cindy loves being outdoors, hiking, “recreational cooking” and feeding other people, reading, and hanging out with her friends and family - human and canine.

Co-Owner

Roxie was born in Rougement, North Carolina on October 15, 2021, about 20 miles from her current home. She is a moyen poodle (“moyen” is French for medium) and she's about 50 pounds. She looks like a doodle because of her haircut (mom likes her fuzzy face!), but she's a poodle.

She’s a sweet ginger girl who loves making new friends, both canine and human. She is happy that she will have a modern life with both a career and her family. She is excited to be the co-owner of Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle, where her primary responsibilities will be demonstrating how a good dog behaves and spreading happiness. Her hobbies are taking hikes, traveling, and playing with friends, leaves, and pinecones. She loves a good ear rub and a bully stick.
