If you are looking for professional service dog training, look no further than Jan, Alex P. , the other Alex and their team at Dog Training Elite West Houston. I wanted a company that would help me train our newly adopted dog, Groot, to be a service dog for my handicapped son. Their training philosophy is rooted in canine behavioral science, positive reinforcement , corrective actions, building confidences of both dog and the handler, consistency and clear communication, which helped Groot and I build an unbreakable bond. Here are some key highlights of our experience: Expert Instruction: They didn’t just trained Groot they also trained me (the handler) and soon my son to understand canine behavior. Customized Approach: Jan and Alex tailored every session to my specific needs and Groot’s personality. With this customization it allowed Groot to learn how to be less and less reactive. Professionalism: Jan, both Alex’s and the whole team are patient, knowledgeable, and always provide helpful follow-up notes after sessions. Thanks to their guidance, Groot is now growing into a stellar working dog. Five stars plus!!!!

I’ll try to keep this short… but fair warning, I have a lot to say. People are quick to leave reviews after a bad experience, but far fewer take the time when things go really well. I intentionally waited until we were near the end of our training program so I could give an honest, start-to-finish review. After bringing home our Doberman, Athena, I did extensive research and spoke with several training companies. I’ve trained my own dogs before, but Dobermans are working dogs, and it was clear early on that Athena was exceptionally intelligent and needed a more intentional, customized approach. We interviewed multiple trainers and were underwhelmed. One even came to our home and couldn’t give clear answers, which was frustrating. Every dog is different — a teacup Yorkie and a Doberman should not be trained the same way — and Athena clearly needed something more tailored. After three disappointing conversations, I called Dog Training Elite West Houston. My first call with Mikala went great. She was patient, thorough, and truly listened to our goals. I never felt rushed, and by the end of the call I felt confident scheduling an in-home evaluation with a trainer named Jackson. From the beginning, I was very clear: fit matters. When you’re investing serious money and inviting someone into your home weekly, you need to feel comfortable with the trainer. Jackson arrived on time, impressed us immediately, and explained — without prompting — that he adjusts training based on each dog’s individual traits. That sold us. We signed up, paid in full, and even added extra puppy sessions to build a strong foundation. Then came a curveball…A few days before our first session, we were told Jackson no longer worked there and our trainer had changed — no introduction, no meeting, just a surprise. That didn’t sit well with me. I explained that meeting the trainer beforehand was non-negotiable. The money wasn’t the issue — fit was. After some initial tension with Mikala, the owner called me personally. He was professional, understanding, and genuinely listened. He apologized and encouraged me to take whatever time was needed with the trainer. That conversation alone restored my confidence in the company. And then came the best part… Jan showed up, and within minutes we knew this was exactly how things were supposed to work out. He was calm, knowledgeable, professional, and took the time to understand Athena, us, and our goals. The training plan was clear, intentional, and tailored for Athena. The sessions were outstanding. Athena was cautious at first (as Dobermans often are), but each week she grew more confident. By the third session, she was excited to see Jan. He didn’t just train Athena — he trained us, emphasizing consistency, daily work, confidence-building, and real-world exposure. By the third or fourth session, Athena had leash pulling, sit, stay, place, and core obedience commands dialed in. We’re now training in high-distraction environments like Lowe’s, practicing heel commands, and she’s doing amazing. Jan also helped Athena face fears head-on — from loud noises to unstable surfaces — and what once startled her quickly became no big deal. Choosing Dog Training Elite was one of the best decisions we’ve made for Athena. They don’t just train your dog — they train you to continue the work long after sessions end. The Platinum package, which includes lifetime support and group classes, is absolutely worth it. The only complaint I have, is the closest group class is about an hour away. Not ideal, but a small tradeoff for the quality we’ve received. We’re hopeful they add a class closer to the Katy/Fulshear area. Despite a slightly bumpy start, this experience exceeded our expectations. Jan has become more than just a trainer — he feels like family. His knowledge, patience, professionalism, and ability to connect with both dogs and owners truly set this place apart. Trainers like Jan are rare, and Athena’s success is a direct reflection of the care and intention he brings to every session.

This is the second and by far the best trainers we used. Ash and Mikayla are awesome!! They are patient and very good at explaining what needs to be done while answering all questions. We will be returning our Yogi to get certified as a service dog

If you are considering a training place for your dog, this is definitely the place I’d recommend for you. The trainers are very professional, the process is very easy, and the prices are very competitive. I was able to get my two dogs started in training in less than two weeks. Mikaela is super nice and helpful, and the trainers Jan and Ash are the best! So patient, so dedicated, and knowledgeable. My dogs are now at week 2 of in facility training and they are doing great!

Dog Training Elite has been one of the best investments my husband & I have made. Our shepherd is night and day in comparison to where we began. We are excited to see where his training will continue to guide both him and us. We really appreciate our trainer, Jackson. He has taken the time to hear our concerns & always leaves us with feedback & ways to combat my dog Rams tendencies to rush & jump on me. We continue to be a work in progress but seeing as though I couldn’t simply walk Ram on a leash before without being dragged down the street, to him letting me to take the lead now, listening to basic obedience and continues to improve with his behavior has been a joy for us. We 100% recommend Dog Training Elite, we felt good about this decision from the beginning when we had our assessment. Again, the trainer then gave us so much insight & that was before we even decided to move forward with the training.

After getting the free assessment from a very helpful and informative trainer, Jan Hernandez, I decided to get the platinum in home training for my aggressive and anxious dog. It’s been 3 weeks and I can already see exciting improvement. Jan is my dogs trainer he is very professional and his confidence and knowledge of dogs puts my mind at ease that he knows what he’s doing. He is able to answer every question I have has a great advice, tricks and tips for training. And anytime I have questions during the week someone responds with help. I’d really recommend dog training elite and Jan if you are looking for dog training and if you have an aggressive anxious/reactive dog like me. Also side note- My dog, at the free assessment, who is 60lbs, who’s hair was sticking up, and was aggressively barking at Jan to the point of standing up (my dog was held back by a leash) Jan immediately calmed him down after meeting him just that moment! My crazy dog was acting like himself after being aggressive a second prior! It was very cool.

Dog training has been such a worthwhile investment both for my dog and myself. Everything we have been working on has helped so much to increase impulse control and decrease separation anxiety, and has given us tools to deal with his reactivity. This is our foster and I feel hopeful that training has given him the chance and structure he never had and we will get him to an adoptable place. Highly recommend!

I cannot recommend Dog training elite west enough! Especially grateful to my puppy trainer Jan. My one-year-old dog used to be an absolute whirlwind—hyperactive, destructive, and intense. He even chewed up the walls of my apartment! I was at my wits’ end. From the very first training session with Jan, I noticed an immediate change in his behavior. It’s been incredible to see how much progress he’s made. He’s calmer, more focused, and so much easier to manage now. The transformation is something I didn’t think was even possible.

These guys are the best dog trainers. They went above and beyond training our dog. Not only that they do provide post training follow up, weekend sessions. All in all, I am so glad I found them. Thanks you guys.
