Classical conditioning is a learning process also known as the Pavlovian method or respondent conditioning. Discovered by Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov, classical conditioning involves developing automatic reflexes to specific conditions. This leads to creating behaviors.

Pavlov is considered to be the father of “classical conditioning.” As a matter of fact, he originally tested his theory using dogs. In an experiment, Pavlov observed dogs began to salivate not just when they received food, but when the people associated with feeding them arrived. Pavlov began to ring a bell when the dogs were presented with food. Over time, the dogs learned to associate the sound of the bell ringing with food. Their mouths would salivate whenever the bell rang.

Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth dog training techniques are based on classical conditioning and rely on positive reinforcement to help your dog achieve deep-rooted obedience. Working with a Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth trainer , your dog will become conditioned and develop those “automatic reflexes” to commands such as sit, stay, and so on.

Dog Training Elite uses classical conditioning as one of their dog training techniques in Frisco.
Positive Reinforcement Vs. Punishment

Traditional dog training methods rely on punishment for errors and “low value” rewards, such as praise or petting, when a dog performs a desired behavior. Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth never resorts to punishing a dog to make them unlearn bad behavior.

Using punishment as a tool can actually backfire. For example: punishing a dog for going to the bathroom inside a house won’t teach them to go outside instead. Often, the dog only understands that the mess makes their owner mad. Instead of going outside, the dog is likely to continue to make messes indoors - but where the owner can’t find them.

Research shows that focusing on positive reinforcement when a desired behavior occurs and not worrying about correcting bad behavior in dogs is more effective and has longer-lasting results. The difference between a dog who has been exposed to dog training techniques used to obey out of fear vs. a dog who learns to obey through a positive, loving bond with their owner is huge.

Positive reinforcement works with dogs because they are inherently eager to please. Rewarding your dog for good behavior as you work with a Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth trainer to help your dog be more obedient will help you create a deep, loving relationship with your dog built on trust.

Training With An E-Collar

As mentioned above, Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth NEVER uses punishments like shock collars to train dogs out of bad behavior. Dog Training Elite Dallas—Fort Worth does make use of an electronic collar . The use of an electronic collar is vastly different in two main ways:

The electric collar does not shock your dog. Instead, it generates a gentle electronic pulse, similar to the tug of a leash.

The electronic collar is never used to punish a dog. It is used to simply gain the attention of a dog and help them focus on the task at hand.

Other dog trainers use harsh static collars or spray collars which have been shown to be less effective.

Behavior Training Vs. Obedience Training

If you are in the market for dog training, you may run across a few terms like "behavior training" or "obedience training." But what's the difference between the two? And which one is best for your dog? We break down the difference, and how to know which one is right for you and your dog. Whatever kind of training your dog needs, Dog Training Elite is here to help.

We started with DTE-Frisco this spring for our puppy. The training surpassed our expectations to the point where we went with the two week camp training. Again, our expectations were surpassed on what our dog learned, the quickness she learned it and the exceptional professionalism they showed. Especially Luke. He has been an exceptional trainer with his patience, passion and care for our dog. Everyone at DTE has been great but I can't say enough great things about Luke. Now that our dog has done so well, she's on to therapy training as she thrives around people. We've been so happy with DTE. I would highly recommend anyone with a puppy to start off on the right "paw" and jump on the training. You and puppy will be happier for it!

I have had the absolute best experience with Dog Training Elite. We started with puppy training and are now in obedience, after that we will start training for service dog! Jordan, Felicity and Luke are kind, personable, obviously care for my dog. They are patient and listen and answer all my questions. I never feel rushed, and they take my disability into account while we are training. That is very much appreciated. They go way above and beyond 🥰. I wholeheartedly recommend Dog Training Elite for any of your training needs.

We were looking for help with our 65lb 11 month old pit rescue when we found DTE. Theo has severe anxiety - mostly involving new experiences and the outdoors. We like to travel and getting him into the vehicle and keeping him inside it was a nightmare. Theo was terrified of being on a leash and would try to back out of his collars and harnesses. This made the experience nerve racking, knowing catching him in a fearful environment would be next to impossible. We can now walk Theo on a leash and he wags his tail while doing so. There are times when he is still scared but they are getting less and less as we continue to work with him. We had wonderful experienced with most everyone who came out to the house for our sessions but Felicity and Jordan were our favorites. Both had exceptional teaching skills and I felt we got the most out of those lessons. It is clear they both enjoy their jobs and the animals they work with. While Theo is no best in class puppy, he was said to be most improved! Would recommend DTE to others looking for help with their companions.

I couldn’t recommend Dog Training Elite more!! Felicity and Jordan have been direct and patient while working with Maggie and I. Without them, I would not have the smart and confident dog I have now and would be a ball of frustration. I always look forward to our sessions so I can see my girl grow!!

We worked pepper and indie with Jordan a handful of times during our training. Jordan and atlas were fantastic with indigo. Jordan was firm with her in her training and gave us pointers to correct her reactivity to other dogs and to help her pulling on the leash. Atlas was well mannered and a great partner to help stimulate indigo and let her react in a controlled environment. I would recommend Dog training elite to anyone. Our two dogs are much better mannered, have boundaries, and get along much better.

I would recommend Dog Training Elite to everyone! I had the opportunity to work with many talented members of their team. Jordan and his amazing dog Atlas helped me and Aries work on distractions in public. He was patient, clear and very knowledgeable. Jordan took the time to explain how Aries and I could be a better team and help pass our PSA. If I could give 10 stars to the Dog Training Elite team I would!!!!

Jordan has trained our dog on multiple occasions, in our home and in public places (our pup needed help with wanting to bark at every dog she saw). He was attentive, helpful, able to answer ALL of our questions, and kind. We would recommend him to anyone.

Chesty has been a remarkable addition to our family. Since we first got him as a puppy we knew he had great potential, we just never knew how. We started working with Jordan and his dog Atlas with basic to intermediate training. We were impressed with his level of dedication and professionalism that we decided to continue Chesty’s advanced training. His level of knowledge and expertise was quickly demonstrated, having a steadfast and effective solution for every issue that Chesty had was something that we truly appreciated. Kyler and Tray have helped transform him from your average family pet, to a certified service animal that will protect and love our family for years to come. We highly recommend Dog Training Elite for any and all dog training development.

Jordan and his dog Atlas were amazing with my puppy, Punxsy. She was in training to be a service dog, and he was so patient, knowledgeable, and Punxsy loved him. Punxsy is now a certified service dog (only 7 months old), and I was able to fly home to Delaware a week ago to visit my family. She was perfect in the airport and on the plane. Jordan played a major role in her training and getting her certified as a service dog. Thank you Jordan and Atlas!

Jordan and Atlas are awesome together. Jordan continues to give great training insight and techniques to our family for our older German Shepard/Chow Chow/Husky Mix, mid-age Pit Bull Mix and Old English Sheep dog puppy. (Dog Training Elite is teaching our daughter how to train her Old English Sheep dog to be her service dog) Training three big dogs who all have BIG personalities is actually REALLY FUN with Dog Training Elite! I highly recommend Jordan and all the trainers!

Jordan spent over 6 weeks helping my dog Krewe and I train her with various commands. More importantly, we wanted to manage her distracting behavior when other dogs are walking outside as well. I cannot say enough great accolades on how Jordan has assisted Krewe and myself in transforming her negative behavior. Jordan brought his dog Atlas and Atlas is extremely well trained pet! This has been a great experience for Krewe and myself. I highly recommend Dog training elite and Jordan!

Jordan is awesome. He really took his time to get to know my dog, Whisky, a male Leonberger, and understand our issues. He is an excellent teacher for both ends of the leash! His dog Atlas is so well trained and provided the perfect distractions for our training sessions. And motivation for me and Whisky ;- ) Couldn't be more pleased!

Elite dog training has been so amazing with how much they have helped us with our pup. Being first time pet owners we knew owning a dog (Doberman) would mean we would need help. Jordan and the team have done such an amazing job of helping us get our pup off to the right start. The whole staff has been knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible on how we can help train our dog.
