I would recommend this place to EVERYONE if I could. We have a 2 year old dog and human reactive German Shepherd mix. Before coming to this facility, we couldn't go on walks without having barking outburst, him leash pulling so hard he was basically walking us, and not being able to be within 500 feet of another human or dog without him wanting to go after them. With him being in day camp classes twice a week for only 2 months, we have noticed a big improvement already. We can go on walks with NO leash pulling and NO barking outbursts. He just graduated day camp on October 1st 2025 and he is a completely different dog. He is no longer scared of people. We are currently in group classes to help socialize him more with dogs and he is doing amazing already. He is able to be in the same room as 10+ dogs and just mind his business. Kathryn has been our trainer and she has been PHENOMENAL. She has worked with us every time we had private lessons and even after day camp day she was there to explain everything he worked on and answer any questions we had. She has even gone out of her way to schedule appointments (that came with our package) and make it somewhere other than an at the facility or at home, to better allow him to be more exposed to real world factors he doesn't normally see. This place has been amazing for us and if you are in the same boat or know someone who may need the extra help with their dog, please give this place a shot. It has been worth every cent.

Kimberly was very sweet and experienced. I have been breeding dogs since the 1980’s so I’ve known several trainers over the years. Kimberly is one of my favorites. She has a natural, easy manner in her training methods and helped correct my flaws in training. My dog was purchased during the Covid pandemic and is not socialized. He was such a cute puppy that we always held him in our laps, he still sits on our laps but he’s huge now. He was trained to go on the treadmill an hour a day to help burn up some of his energy. The one negative side affect is that he is super strong so he’s a handful. He is also very protective leaving me so afraid he would bite someone. Kimberly informed me that Tony was picking up my fear making him more aggressive. She is a joy to work with.

We have a 9.5 lb Morkie, who has been the stubbornest dog we have ever had, and we've had multiple miniature schnauzers over the years. We signed Teddy up for the Day Camp program where we dropped him off in the morning, one day a week, and picked him up in the evening. He did very well and graduated from Day Camp. Then we went on to the group classes, which we feel are very important for us to work with Teddy ourselves. I was pleased that within a few weeks, he was able to pass his Canine Good Citizenship test. He still has a few issues for us to work on, but with the help of Dog Training Elite Des Moines, I know it's just a matter of time and patience to get him to be the little dog with perfect behaviour. We are very happy to have had him involved with Dog Training Elite Des Moines.

We can't express our gratitude enough to Dog Training Elite! Their training has transformed Archie into an incredibly well-behaved and obedient companion. Our home life has improved dramatically, thanks to their expertise. Archie is now a 'good boy' in every sense, and it's made our days together so much more enjoyable. We highly recommend Elite! Thank you to the whole team! I can now take Cerberus for a walk instead of him taking me for a walk. He has become more accepting of humans and we are both learning more each time we go to class! I would highly recommend DTE for anything from the minor things to complete service dog training!

Kim and the DTE team are fantastic! Our dog, Winston, was stubborn to say the least and his leash skills were awful - to the point that my wife hated walking him because he pulled her around the neighborhood and would go wild if he saw any sort of animal while he was out. We signed him up for their obedience training course and saw drastic improvements in his behavior and temperament after the first class! Once he got all the way through training he was a completely new dog. He is a joy to take on walks and my wife has even started running with him. As a busy body, I was skeptical, to say the least, that he would ever do place. To my surprise, after the third class, he was laying on a cot minding his own business while other dogs were training and people were coming in and out. A sight to behold. The trainers are fantastic to work with. Each day when you pick up your dog, they do a quick demonstration and then have you work on the prompts as well. They are sticklers though and expect you to do your homework with the dog. The trainers also will provide updates about the training including pictures and videos of your dog performing the training cues. Having worked with other trainers in the past, I can confidently say Dog Training Elite is the best dog obedience training program in the Des Moines Metro. If you are thinking about signing up for obedience classes for your dog, Dog Training Elite is the best bang for your buck!

Where do I begin? We took our sweet golden retriever, Honey, to elite dog trainings platinum 8 week training course. It was a big investment for us, so we had really high hopes. They were exceeded! Kim and Anna aren’t your typical dog trainers. In the past, with other dogs, we’ve dealt with trainers who beat your dogs personality and excitement down into submission- so I was nervous because Honey is so sweet and I didnt want her to loose that. But Elite works with your dogs personality and you can tell they actually LOVE dogs and what they do. Honey became friends with them while respecting them within 30 min of our first session. By the end, she became an independent, obedient, and happy dog who lives to please my husband and I. We will be lifelong clients of Elite!

We have been so impressed with Dog Training Elite, from the first meeting at our home with Kimberly and Kathleen that left us with confidence that their training could help with a a hyper ambitious 15 month old Boston Terrier female. They both knew from our meeting that I was the spoiler of our baby girl and took her under their wing to training camp and completed a well behaved and obedient (with love) 10 day course of correction that changed her and me to a wonderful life together. Dog training elite is literally the best. Me and my coworker felt very mislead by other training facilities in the metro because they said “our type of dog is not a good breed” for therapy dogs. DTE said that they train all breeds and sizes and don’t give up on the dogs or the owners. They have done that and so much more! We are excited to see what is to come for our therapy dogs as they start their journey helping us heal and others around us.

I am so happy and fortunate that I found Dog Training Elite. These are the BEST trainers. They are very positive and encouraging. They are always there to help when you need it. No one believes that my puppy is 7 months old because she is so well behaved in public. If you want to have a well trained dog and work with great trainers I HIGHLY recommend DTE!

We rescued our Petra girl from ARL in August 2023, after our beloved Rosie passed. Petra was then 14 months old and a Siberian Husky Shepherd mix. High energy and reactive - but the best heart. She deserved a chance. Petra is our 5th fur baby and we thought we could train her ourselves. Our love and prior experience was just not enough to give her her best life. Special deserves special care and that’s where Dog Training Elite rescued us! Professional, compassionate, and exemplary training and care. Kim is so caring and knowledgeable - specializing in high energy and reactive breeds. Kim has created a trusting and loving bond with Petra, as well as us! I absolutely love this facility? They have a team of knowledgeable trainers who look at the dog in front of them and not some program that doesn’t fit every dog. They treat the dogs as they would their own and teach the owners not just the dog!!

We’ve been using Dog Training Elite Des Moines for the dog training program since October of 2022 for our puppy Jax. When Kim first walked into our lives, Jax was the co-captain of the hot mess express. He would jump up on everyone, bark at his own shadow etc. Along the way, we’ve encountered some obstacles( dog reactivity) and we enrolled him into day camp to have him evaluated to see if we could have this issue fixed because Jax is enrolled into the SDIT program. It was determined that Jax lacked confidence and I’ve been using the tools and knowledge that Dog Training Elite Des Moines has given me and each week there has been small baby steps improvements in behavioral changes in Jax. The improvement I’ve seen in him and others have mentioned seeing in him has been noticeable. I highly recommend using this company for any and all dog training needs.

great training facility for our service dog for our sons service dog. I cannot say enough good things about all the trainers we have worked with in at home 1st trainings/group/obedient/sdit trainings. The owner has always been there for questions or adding value to our training. We started our journey in Oct with a consultation, then went with their preferred breeder. Which is also was a great experience. We cant thank them enough for all the help and support we have gotten in our long journey

If you need a dog trainer for any reason, go to Dog Training Elite! They have been training my 6 month old German shepherd mastiff mix since she was 3 months old and I am so incredibly pleased with her progress and can't wait to see her learn more from Kim and Anna. They don't just train your dog. They also train you! So it's a 2 for 1 deal really. And they have answered every question I've had about my puppy from feeding to sleeping and everything. Kim and Anna are the best trainers! I also love the fact that they are with us for the long haul. They don't just train your dog and send you off, they are there to help with any issues that may come up. Kim and Anna know dogs and they know what they are doing and they do it right! I can't recommend them enough!!!

In the past we have had issues with strangers coming too close and visitors in our house. We were feeling so defeated and afraid that our sweet (to us) boy was going to hurt ssomeone. Within an hour of Chief meeting Kimberly, she was able to give him treats and we knew we made the right choice. They are forming an incredible bond and Chief is finally able to play outside and in public without the anxiety that has always come with it. I am so excited to continue watching him grow into himself and thankful we made the right choice in a trainer.

Archer was 5 when I decided as a mental health therapist to enter training in hopes he could become a therapy dog. I was amazed at the simplicity and effectiveness of the training. As I grew in confidence I saw Archer's happiness explode! He knew what i was asking him to do and loved (most days) showing me he could do it. We are now a therpay team and he accompanies me to work daily to be a support for others. This Elite team has been an incredible support for us-celebrating each step along the way. I would recommend dog Training Elite to every dog owner. Kim had our German shepherd Cerberus in line and learning immediately. He is now able to do commands in German and walk with confidence in public. He is more gentle with the grand baby as well. Thank you sooo much!!! ♥️🐶♥️

I have the best dogs but they just don’t know how to act in public or around other people. The training has been really helpful to teach not only the dog but the dog owner. I can now take my dogs on walks without them choking themselves out. I’m looking forward to working with the team in public settings next.

Dog Training Elite has been absolutely awesome for my German Shepherd Loki. He was dog reactive and lacked the confidence he needed. With the 6 weeks of training from Dog Training Elite he has improved drastically. Both trainers we worked with Jack and Kim were very professional and super knowledgeable. Working with Kim was great she absolutely adores German shepherds and had so much patience with Loki. I’m happy I have the tools now for Loki and I to have better communication and be able to do more fun things outside of the house. If you are looking for a place you can trust and also has a very detailed program put in place for you and your furry companions this is the place. Thank you Dog Training Elite.

I highly recommend Dog Training Elite for all your dog training needs. I knew my dog had potential to become a Therapy Dog, however I needed some more knowledge in my training skills. DTE was able to work with me and help expand my training knowledge, and how to best communicate with my dog. We are have passed their Dog Therapy Test and absolutely love volunteering within the community. The best part about DTE is you become apart of a community, they are always willing to help in continuing your dog training knowledge after you have completed their program.

Jack has trained by dog since she was a puppy and made an incredible difference in her obedience and her overall demeanor. Jack is patient and a natural at what he does. He talks through the entire process and thoroughly explains the training technique, each step of the way. Jack and Cannady are both very professional and attentive to you and your animals needs. My puppy is now a certified therapy dog and I couldn't have done it without Jack and Cannady! They are the best!

I tried to self train my dog, which went ok but we were not making the progress I wanted for her. Since we started training with DTE she has made exceptional progress after each season. Their entire group is dedicated to what is best for the dogs. Our experience has been wonderful!

We have gotten so much more than this from Dog Training Elite Des Moines! At the beginning, they gave Milo and I extra care coming to our home to work one-on-one. This helped make huge advances in his training. We switched to group classes where he's learned how to be a well behaved pup with other dogs and people around. Milo and I enjoyed our experience so much, I looked into Therapy Dog Training. About a year and a half later, Milo is getting ready to test to become certified. It is all thanks to the care, time, and continued personalized focus Jack, Cannady, and Morgan have provided us. I could not speak more highly! Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for dog training!!

Dog Training Elite has led us through the training process from basic obedience to Therapy Dog certification. They provided a great training environment for our puppy and convenient schedule that we could commit to in our busy life. It started with few individual lessons and when our dog was ready, he was invited to a group class and then to an advanced group class. The process took about 9 months from the start to certification. Dog Training Elite has an excellent team of trainers, that helped us learn many techniques for various commands. We are looking forward to start taking our certified dog to his job sites.

Great trainers who are flexible in training. I am in a wheelchair and am training a service dog and Dog Training Elite was extremely helpful modifying the training and even had a trainer work one on one with my dog in group since I couldn’t train in the grass. Very happy with the training my service dog is getting.

They did a fantastic job with my baby bella during the day stay program. The transformation from crazy puppy to well-trained dog was incredible. Some behaviors that were difficult for us, like jumping on people, and walking on a leash. Pickup and drop off were seamless and they did a thorough job of explaining the process in the beginning and an excellent tutorial of how to keep up the training at the end of the training session, and we have a blast at the group sessions that you receive after, just a great atmosphere and great people

My pup, Fergus and I started with DTE Des Moines not quite a year ago. I had started on his basic obedience on my own, but unlike other dogs I’ve trained, I needed this one to be a cardiac alert service dog for myself. I was not willing to train with punishment rather than positive reinforcement and refused other trainers because of the use of inhumane shock collars as correction. DTE uses an e-collar that vibrates to get the dogs attention, but never to punish. Ever. I put the collar on myself more than once and adjusted the vibrations to know exactly how it feels. It does not hurt the dog in any way, so I moved forward. Fergus is a mix of 2 breeds that are not known for having good sniffers, as needed for cardiac alert training, but our trainer said, “I’ll never give up on a dog. Fergus might be able to do it , and we can try if you want to put in the time and move forward”. Wow! Complete honesty at the risk of losing a potential client! So, 10 months ago we started scent training while also teaching what he needs to know to be capable in any public setting. It turns out his nose is good enough! I’m so grateful that DTE Des Moines believes in all dogs and their potential, while giving us the knowledge to work with our dogs daily to build trust and the skills needed to help those of us who need them. They are knowledgeable, patient, kind, encouraging and put a lot of thought into which approaches to take with each unique team to be as successful as possible. Whether you need simple obedience or more advanced work, I can’t recommend them highly enough. You can tell they love what they do, and they do it well! DTE Des Moines, thank you for believing in me and Fergus. We are incredibly grateful!

DTE Des Moines has given us the tools to work with our now 8 month old Golden Doodle and enjoy walks, outings, visitors to the house, and other dogs with a well behaved pup. The trainers are extremely knowledgeable and very patient teaching pet owners the techniques. My husband and I signed our pup up for one week training in the office at DTE, Jack came to our home a few weeks later to help us fix some challenges we were having with the heel command, and now we are enjoying the group classes. All we’ve gained through their training has been more than I thought possible and well worth the investment. I recommend DTE Des Moines to everyone I know wanting to work on behaviors with their dog.

We are having great success with our puppy, Opie after working with the DTE team. He is learning commands quickly and loves working with the trainers. Opie can be a bit stubborn and I really appreciate all the tips and details the trainers give us to work with this trait. You can tell the DTE staff really cares about the dogs they work with and helping you succeed!

We contacted DTE DSM because we were lost with our puppies disobedience and poor behavior. From our free evaluation to our 4 private at home personal lessons, we were given our dog back. She is now a well behaved, confident and happy member of out pack. I don't know who learned more, Rizzo or my daughter and I. We still have our 4 group sessions band I can't wait to see what comes of them. This service was truly the best use of money. I cannot recommend this group higher. Kathryn, Jack and Cannady have given us back our pet with all the tools necessary to enjoy her to the fullest extent. Thank you DTE...Bill Sexton

We enlisted another very prominent trainer in Des Moines prior to Elite and truly felt that we were a hopeless case after. The previous trainer was expensive and we had several sessions that each ended with “I don’t know what’s wrong with him.” We were heartbroken. Then we found Elite, and after only three sessions, our boy has been improving 100x over! The trainers have given us clear techniques and instructions and actually LISTEN to our concerns! I literally tear up just thinking about how much more confident I am in my boy now, and only after 3 sessions! No more reactivity on walks and he is already catching on quickly to other commands! I will update this review as we go along, but am SO SO incredibly happy we found these trainers!! Worth every cent!!!

Dog Training Elite changed my dog! Cannady and Jack are in my opinion the most knowledgeable and friendly trainers I have met. My dog Ky-mani is known for not having confidence around other dogs and bad leash reactivity. Cannady and Jack not only helped me work on these issues but also helped him become a more obedient dog. He listens to the commands we have learned and makes my life as the owner a lot easier and less stressful. These two also provided ME with so much knowledge about the way dogs act and think. Also things I might have been doing wrong as an owner. All these tools have made my relationship with my dog so much better. I recommend anyone with a dog give them a call. The training and tools you learn are for their whole life so well worth it!

When I hired them I thought my dog was a 50/50 chance of being trainable...they are AMAZING!! I believe we have only had 6 sessions and my dog can now go on walks off her leash and be around other dogs without any problems. She was a psychopath before her training with them! We had her on a tow chain in our living room because she would run around our house and destroy EVERYTHING! This dog literally ate a part of my floor and walls...one time she even ate a hole in my mattress and I was only gone for aprx 2 minutes! But after only 2 sessions with Jack she was able to be in our house free roaming....she would sit and stay close by ....no more destructive behaviour at all! There's Soo much more I could y but seriously they are the best I could have asked for!

I would highly recommend Jack and Cannady if you’re looking to get your dog trained. In only a few short sessions with them, our dog Roger was much more controllable. We went from a next to impossible dog to take on walks to a dog that now walks without a leash. The concepts are very simple to learn and with daily trainings, everyone in my house is able to work with Roger.

I could not be more impressed with this company and it’s ability to both train and educate clients and their pups! Cannady’s aptitude to listen compassionately to my concerns and her connection with my dog are unmatched; paired with Jack’s professionalism and attention / deep care for the work he does with animals- I am absolutely floored. I saw changes in my dog’s behavior within a week of my first training session, which was absolutely shocking to me. After trying both medication to ease my dog’s severe separation anxiety and another training company for her dog to dog aggression, I was not sure what to expect when starting with DTE.. but these two have supplied me with the tools I need to comfortably go on walks again with my dog and leave her alone in my home without worry. With that, Jack has been nothing but attentive and adaptive to my schedule and happily answers any & all questions I have about my dog and the mechanics of their training method. I 10/10 recommend these two and DTE Des Moines as a whole. You guys are the best!

Jack and Cannady are fantastic people and amazing dog trainers. Both of my dogs (a Pug and an Australian shepherd) love them!. They communicate the training process so that I am included in the training as well. I trust them 100% with my dogs!

I have always had a passion for animals and have groomed dogs since 2007. I became passionate about dog training while actually training my own dog to be a service dog. Since then I have gone to dog training school through catch academy and received my certification. I hold a certification as a CCDT and am working towards my IACP certification. I am attending the master aggression course with world renowned aggressive dog trainer Michael Shikashio. I have attended the Victoria Stillwell seminar, Aggressive dog conference put on by Michael Shikashio. I have a soft spot for the fearful and anxious dog so I specialize in dog aggression and reactive cases. I have 3 sons, two German Shepherds named June and Odin, a French Bulldog named Snarf, and a Sphinx Cat named Turkey. When not working you can find me in the sun doing anything near water or exploring nature.

Hi, my name is Kathryn and I’ve been working and training dogs for over 10years. I started with 2 unruly boxers who desperately needed help with their behavior. I took some classes and was immediately drawn towards the training. I started taking online classes and following tons of trains and trying several techniques. Working with any dog I could get my hands on.
The beginning of 2019 is when everything changed, I took in a neglected young Dutch shepherd puppy and was introduced to the world of working/sport dogs. I started to take on more clients and found I really excelled in behavior modification as well as the process of service dog training. I’ve worked with everything from hunting and sport dogs, to personal protection dogs with a company in Florida to service dogs for all disabilities.
I currently have 2 Dutch Shepherds, a Belgian Malinois and recently took in a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I'm always up for a challenge and no dog can be too difficult. Watching the bond change between dog and owner has been the most rewarding part of my job and I can't wait for more years with happy clients.

Hello, I’m Alissa - I’ve loved animals my entire life and have made it my goal to center my career around them. I started in the doggy daycare/boarding business when I was 15, learned how to groom dogs when I was 21, started showing in 2022, and currently I’ve been training dogs since July 2025.
I own two Treeing Walker Coonhounds, Blair is an ex-show dog currently in training for therapy work and sports. My second, Pixie, is reactive/aggressive - she is the main reason for my passion when helping others with their reactive or less-biddable dogs, it’s so rewarding to see the same progress and know exactly how the owners feel watching their dog make that progress. My main goal is to help you and your dog build a clear understanding of each other and strengthen your bond. I hope we get to work together!
