    We took in our four year old English mastiff Hank as a foster to adopt in January 2026. He came to us with zero history but it was immediately apparent he had some serious reactivity and behavioral issues. At 165 pounds, it was a very big concern. We looked into board and train but knew that would not be the appropriate solution for Hank. We tried another local training facility and found them to be a waste of time and money. Our neighbor recommended Jason, having recently trained with him for her service dog. In our first meeting with Jason, we knew he would be the right fit for us. He was undaunted by Hank’s size and reactivity. He made sure to understand our goals and the approaches we felt comfortable in trying with Hank. He never pushed us into only one method and continually checks in to see if we want to change our goals or approaches. He has been available to us when we had issues arise between training sessions. His calm, clear instruction is so appreciated. He has trained us in how to manage our new guy. His understanding of dog behavior and openness to solutions that fit the dog and family is invaluable.

    We had an excellent experience with Jason and Iliana. Our 2 year old GSP is an amazing dog but full of energy and curiosity - we love taking him on hikes and wanted to strengthen his off leash recall, as well as leash pulling. We tried other training approaches but he seemed immune! DTE helped us strengthen our communication and trust with our pup, and his overall obedience. They come to your home, meet you out in public training locations, and offer 1:1 and group sessions. Thank you team!

    We absolutely loved our training with Jason and Dog Training Elite. He was so knowledgeable and helpful working with Walnut. We have seen so much improvement in Walnut's anxiety, behavior in social settings, and in listening to our commands. We have been able to enjoy walks with him when he can meet new pup friends in our neighborhood, and we are even able to relax when we take Walnut to the brewery!     Jason came for the initial visit. We were impressed with his presentation and signed up. Illiana is our trainer who comes to the house and we really like her because she has a special way about her. Pia and Shultz get all excited when she comes.     We had such a great experience with Dog Training Elite while working with our 8-month-old Golden Retriever puppy! Jason did our initial evaluation at our home and was incredibly thorough, attentive, and thoughtful. He took the time to understand exactly what we wanted to work on and created a training plan that was truly tailored to our puppy and our goals. We really appreciated that the approach was effective without ever feeling aggressive or overwhelming for our puppy. We then continued our 1:1 training with Iliana, and we saw tangible improvements from day one!     Jason has been an awesome trainer for Berkeley. We started training when she was just 12 weeks old, and she turned one at the end of April. In less than a year, my pit mix has become a reliable psychiatric service dog that I confidently take everywhere with me. Berkeley has flown with me on four cross-country flights between Connecticut and California, comes with me to all public places, and handles those environments incredibly well. The foundation Jason helped us build from the very beginning has made all the difference. Berkeley had some anxiety in certain situations early on, and Jason gave me practical advice and tools to help us work through it. His guidance helped build her confidence just as much as her skills! If you’re willing to put in the time and effort with your dog and follow Jason’s advice, you’ll absolutely see the results. I highly recommend him!

    Me and my Catalan sheepdog mix/supermutt girl, Dooley, have been learning so much with Illiana, one of the best trainers ive met in my 27 years of dog-owning. Because Dooley loves to run, we've been focused on e-collar training so that I can take her off-leash to various areas and keep her safe and under my command. You think you know dogs and then you meet a trainer like Illiana and realize there's a lot more to learn! I definitely recommend Dog Elite and their trainers.

    We absolutely LOVE Dog Training Elite. Jason has been so great with our dog Rhodes. He was a very difficult puppy but with patience, persistence and guidance - he is now a well mannered member of society (most of the time haha). Group training has also been a great help. It’s exposed Rhodes to other dogs, people and environments which have helped widen his training scope. Couldn’t recommend them more - with every penny!

Lauren The owner and Wendy in the Office and Jason and Juliana, who were the instructors out in the field, going to multiple destinations to ensure proper training and socialization for our future together, was very stress-free and accommodating for times and destinations The training was so professional that everyone was relaxed through All the sessions during an after your final training when my dog is certified as a service dog, we can go twice a month for group training, which gets your socialization and training with other dogs.     DTE has helped us so much since starting with them. We have two dogs that were working through a lot of reactivity and separation anxiety and the change we have seen in them this early on is so amazing. Jason has give us the training expertise and tools to continue to build on the foundation we have created, and that’s just in a handful of one on one training sessions. They come to you and work in your environment which is extremely helpful. Additionally, having group classes where our pups can continue their learning and be exposed to other dogs as well is a huge plus. I’m so happy we came across DTE. Training Essentials for Your Puppy

At Dog Training Elite, we believe in positive reinforcement and yummy treats do the trick! We recommend a high-quality, berry-sized reward that your puppy will enjoy. Rewarding your dog while training teaches them that you approve of that behavior and maintains their motivation to perform well.
Because you’ll be handing out lots of treats, you will probably want a treat bag or pouch. There are many options out there with different sizes, shapes, and ways to carry. The benefit of getting a treat pouch is the ease of access and the ability to reward your puppy quickly. If you aren’t interested in getting a treat pouch, we recommend getting a small bag to carry you puppy’s rewards.
A clicker is a great tool to have along with rewards when training a puppy. With a clicker, you can immediately provide a positive sound when your dog performs a correct behavior, and then you can reward them with a treat. Pairing a clicker with treats is a great way to instill positive reinforcement because you teach your dog that they get a treat when they hear a click. You can buy many kinds of clickers at your local pet store, and they even have helpful clicker apps.
A good leash is another essential when bringing home a new puppy. We suggest a leash made of a durable material like leather and about 6 feet long to allow for comfortable room for both of you. Training your dog on a leash will set you up for fun walks in the future, keep your dog safe, and prevent them from getting lost while out of the house. It is also beneficial for an excited puppy who wants to run around and play while training.
You'll need a sturdy collar or harness to attach a leash while training. Deciding between a flat collar or body harness is up to your personal preference, but it is good to consider your dog's comfort and demeanor. A collar is necessary while training and for safety while out and about. A collar/harness is also the best place to attach the identification for your puppy. If anything happened to your dog, you'd be glad you had a collar with your information on it!
Getting a dog crate is a great way to housetrain your puppy. You will want to get a durable and safe crate for your dog that has enough room for them to be comfortable. You want the crate to be a place of calm and safety for your dog, not a punishment zone. Getting your puppy crate trained gives you a safe space in your home to keep them while they are unsupervised and also prevents unwanted behaviors like chewing or peeing inside.
