French bulldogs are known for being even-tempered and playful. Because of their size, they can do well in smaller homes and apartments, making them an ideal companion for city life.

Two of the best qualities of French bulldogs are their adaptability and ability to get along well with children. However, while these traits may be innate, it's still an excellent idea to enroll a dog in training to help build their socialization skills and teach them basic commands for safety.

French bulldogs instinctively bark to alert you when strangers are at the door. Training can teach your dog how to respond appropriately to avoid excessive barking and alerts whenever the mail or delivery man drops off a package. This training can be vital in an apartment setting to maintain peace in a shared complex. While they may not need much exercise due to their small size and stature, training your dog to walk on a leash is still a good idea. Walking is a great opportunity for your dog to get outside and discover new things. Your dog may make new friends with both people and canines.

Training can help make this experience safe and fun for you and your dog. Because French bulldogs are friendly, you'll want to train them to socialize appropriately with people and dogs that may be less open to meeting new friends.

As your Frenchie will probably enjoy ample time indoors, it's also great to train them to communicate when they need to go potty. Accidents happen, and dogs often need to be trained on what to do when they need to go to avoid having them.

I cannot speak highly enough about our experience with dog training elite. They have been amazing to work with. Specifically Marshall has really blown us away. His understanding of dogs has been top notch and his ability to read and train dogs has our friends asking who trained our dog all the time. We are so grateful to DTE and specifically Marshall. 10/10

We tried other trainers before DTE and there is no comparison with the work DTE team does. After the first session my puppy was already feeling more confident and responding to the commands. We appreciate the approach of Jocy and Alaina. They were excellent to Niko and us. They pushed us to learn and do our best to train Niko. We just loved the program. I also want to highlight the group class. We attended one so far but we loved and it is very helpful for Niko. Thank you so much!!

Dog Training Elite has been nothing short of incredible. I honestly can’t say enough good things about their team and the results they’ve helped us achieve. When we started, my dog had plenty of areas that needed work—but through their structured training, patience, and clear guidance, everything changed. They don’t just train your dog—they teach you how to communicate effectively, which made all the difference. The trainers are professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely care about your dog’s success. What really stands out is the transformation. My dog has gone from needing direction to being confident, obedient, and reliable in a variety of environments. Thanks to Dog Training Elite, he’s now at the point where he’s ready to take a therapy dog test—which I never would have imagined before starting. If you’re on the fence, don’t be. This program works. It’s an investment that pays off in every aspect of your dog’s behavior and your relationship with them. Highly recommend.

My daughter and I absolutely love Kayle! She is clear in her directions, and will even change how she says it if my daughter doesn’t understand. Without even asking she will explain why/reason to whatever she is working on with my daughter and our dog. She is an excellent source of knowledge and so sweet

My dog Cannoli had amazing results with Dog Training Elite. He is about a year and a half we had already done training on basics but he was still very timid around new people and reactive at dogs we passed by on walks. With Dog Training Elite we had multiple trainers work with us over his first few sessions which was a great way to get him to overcome his fears of new people and people entering our home. For the second half of his private session we worked with Rich who was amazing with Cannoli. He was patient when Cannoli needed, he saw immediate potential with Cannoli. Rich really personalized the experience to Cannoli, his needs, and pushed him past his comfort zone in a safe and exciting way that has allowed Cannoli to become a confident dog. Having the trainers personal dog join some of the sessions was a great opportunity for us to overcome reactivity and was a great tool for Cannoli. Now we feel confident moving into the group classes!

Jason and Syanne have been amazing and I couldn’t ask for a better experience. They are working with my family and I to train my puppy Finn to be a psychiatric service dog. I’ve been with them for about a year now. They both never fail to make me laugh and make training fun. As someone with a lot of anxiety, they do such a great job at making a fun and safe environment. Jason is always available to answer questions and always answers in such detail and I have learned so much from him. Jason is extremely knowledgeable and very kind. I’m so grateful my family and I chose this training with them and I would highly recommend them for any training with your dog! It’s always so fun to see everyone and their dogs at group class too!!

Safety and Health

French bulldogs don't require much mental stimulation, making them easy pets around the house. Regardless, it’s still vital that they know what parts of your home are safe to explore and what areas they need to avoid.

Proper training can help your dog learn to be alone and relieve stress when you are away from home. You'll also want to be confident your dog won't run out into busy streets when you open the front door, so sit and down commands are vital.

Sit, come, heel, and down are also vital to their safety around water. Because of their short legs and body shape, French bulldogs cannot swim without assistance. They must listen to you whenever you are around pools, lakes, or oceans.

Because of their face shape, French bulldogs can also be prone to breathing problems. Training can help to take the stress out of vet visits. It can also help you identify times when your pet is communicating that something is wrong so that you can help support their health and well-being.

Choosing the proper French bulldog training in Boston, MA should offer the support you need to work with your dog. At Dog Training Elite, we focus on keeping your dog safe and happy. We use an electronic vibrating collar rather than a shock collar to reinforce concepts and keep them focused. We want dogs to feel supported and excited to learn concepts to help them lead a happy and safe life with you! Investing in quality training and socialization will help you and your dog navigate new environments together.
