Epilepsy is a common disorder, affecting approximately 3.4 million Americans. Living with epilepsy can be difficult for many individuals. Due to fear of falling or other consequences related to seizures, many epileptic individuals will avoid going out in public. This greatly reduces quality of life and independence. Fortunately, service dogs can be trained to assist those with epilepsy. A Medical Response Dog is able to alert their caretaker and anyone nearby of an imminent seizure and protect their caretaker from injury or falling. The Americans with Disabilities Act allows individuals with disabilities, such as epilepsy, to bring service dogs anywhere with them in public spaces. The assistance of a Medical Response Dog can empower those with epilepsy and increase their quality of life.

Dogs have the ability to detect changes in an individual’s smell right before an epileptic attack, which allows them to effectively warn their caretakers. Almost any dog can be trained to act as a Medical Response Dog if they have the right temperament. If you or a loved one suffer from epilepsy, a Medical Response Dog training program can be life changing. Dog Training Elite offers a specialized Medical Response Dog training program in Orlando.

The Medical Response Dog Training Program in Orlando

For specialized training, it is best to start with puppies. Our Medical Response Dog training program is intensive and prepares your dog for a life of service. Service dogs must have a calm temperament and they must be first trained in obedience. Dogs that have aggressive, shy, or disobedient characteristics cannot be service dogs. After completing obedience programs, service dogs must undergo specialized skill training. An expert evaluation will determine whether or not the dog is suited for medical alert services at this point. If so, they dog will be trained to detect oncoming seizures and warn the epileptic individual. Medical Response Dogs warn their caretakers in various ways, including: barking, close eye contact, pawing or licking, and or circling. Additional behaviors can be taught to protect the caretaker, such as breaking a fall by standing behind the individual, turning on lights or opening doors, and alerting others to the situation.

If you are looking for a Medical Response Dog training program in Orlando to assist an individual with epilepsy, Dog Training Elite is here to help. Our expert trainers are experienced with various types of service dog training programs. Medical Response service dogs can bring independence, increased quality of love, and companionship.

Dog Training Elite has expert trainers experienced in providing medical alert dog training services near you in Orlando.

Our Balanced Theory

We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.

  • Empowering Owners
We empower Owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times.
  • Personalized
We deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis.
  • Environment Specific
We train wherever issues tend to arise (i.e. jogging, park, home).
  • Supportive
We support Owners in the off-hours (when training is "not in session").
  • Involved
We work with all members of the household.
  • Simplified & Customized
We plan training around the owner's schedule and require only 20 min/day follow-up practice.
  • Continued Training
Additional programs / group sessions offered after in-home training.
  • Lifetime Investment
We follow up & are invested in the owner's success long-term.
  • Satisfaction Ratings
Our high client satisfaction rating sets us apart from competitors.

After researching multiple dog training facilities, we decided to go with Dog Training Elite. Our experience has been amazing, and we are confident we made the right choice. I love the in-home training, with the dogs being trained in their own environment. Craig is an excellent trainer and really patient with our dogs. He is also extremely flexible when it comes to my crazy work schedule, which was one of my concerns when finding a trainer. Our dogs listen so much better, and I can actually take them on walks without being pulled. One of them is already walking off-leash. Anyone who is looking for a dog trainer, I highly recommend DTE.

I’ve had a very nice experience with Craig and Miriam. They’ve been helping me with my rambunctious Doberman Sasha. The trainers are patient and willing to adapt the training sessions to address any new concerns I may have regarding my dog’s behavior. Sasha’s confidence has grown and she’s less skittish.

We adopted a 1 1/2 yr old pit bull/boxer mix from a local no kill shelter after being rescued from the humane society. He was kept away from the other dogs because he couldn't be kept in a crate /pen due to his anxiety. His past was unknown, but obviously very traumatic. After adopting Jax, we found out he had dog aggression/ reactivity that would cause redirected aggression towards us. After using one trainer (without any success), we used Elite Dog Training. With the help of Craig and Miriam, Jax has made significant progress. It has been a long process and will continue to be ... but we have learned so much working with Elite. Jax is on his way to "tolerating" other dogs. Thank you Craig and Miriam!!

My husband and I were new puppy parents to a very energetic breed and we didn't know where to turn. We called Craig and he chatted to us about DTE's training philosophy and how the whole process would work before coming out to do a free evaluation and demo with his dog. As soon as we saw how he interacted with our dog and his we were immediately sold. He is extremely professional and truly cares about you and your dog. His patience is unmatched! We are so happy with our dog's progress and highly recommend DTE North Orlando to everyone.

After the unexpected loss of my 10 year old son’s service dog, we were in desperate need of a trainer with not only experience, but compassion, patience and love of what they do fast. Craig and his team showed up and more than delivered. They were great working with my son in a way he was comfortable handling and training his puppy while respecting his medical and special needs boundaries. They identified the dogs natural instincts and used them to bolster his training. With each training session my son became more confident in his ability and the puppy conquered a new task/command. DTE made sure we had all the tools we needed to be successful between sessions and get the most out of our efforts. We have been so thrilled with DTE we decided to put our other dog through training with them as well. Will be recommending DTE to anyone we know who could also benefit from a trainer.

My six month old puppy has made so much progress with just ONE HOUR of training so far!! We woke up this morning to a much more well-mannered dog, which has taken a huge load of stress off our shoulders. Thank you guys so much… We are so excited to continue our sessions!!! Update: We have the most well behaved dog living in our home. He is so much more confident, we have all kinds of freedom for him to roam around without question, and he is happier than ever. Chelsea and Cheyanne are absolutely amazing, they provide more than enough support and we are so grateful to have found them. I cannot recommend this team enough!!!
