Many dog owners express frustration when their dog returns from obedience school and has not learned one command successfully. While obedience school trainers teach your dog simple commands, effective training is best done at home with the owner. Each dog is unique, with its own temperament and behavioral issues. Full-scope training is not possible to achieve without an in-home dog training program.
During in-home sessions, trainers get to know the dog and its environment. There are often particular issues- chasing the mailman or barking at the neighbor’s cat - that are not observed in an out-of-home setting. Bringing a professional dog trainer into your home creates a personalized training experience, that addresses your dog’s particular issues.
In-home dog training is more successful than group classes because it minimizes distractions. Basic obedience and behavioral issues must first be addressed with one-on-one private training, and then these lessons can be tested in a more distracting environment. Dog Training Elite Northeast Ohio takes a comprehensive approach, pairing in-home training with group lessons to ensure your dog fully retains every command and can respond appropriately regardless of the environment.
In-home dog trainers can address a variety of issues, such as:
- Housebreaking
- Leash pulling
- Aggression
- Anxiety
- Ignoring commands
- Excessive barking
- Jumping on people
- Destructive behaviors

Positive Training Methods
At Dog Training Elite Northeast Ohio, we understand that you want the best for your dog, and our goal is to ensure all training experiences are positive for you and your furry friend! Our team of trainers has learned that positive reinforcement and classical conditioning are the most effective training methods. We never use punishment - we love dogs and we want them to learn in a positive, safe environment! By rewarding dogs for good behavior rather than punishing negative behaviors, our trainers effectively teach your canine companion how to behave.
In Home Dog Training Goals
While our professional dog trainers will be taking the lead, you, and any other family members who interact with your dog will be a part of the training process as well. In-home dog training empowers you and helps you build a positive relationship with your dog.
Benefits of Positive In-Home Training Techniques
Develop a Strong Bond
Dogs enjoy training sessions if they take place with the person they love. Listening, learning, and acting on commands is a way for your dog to show you that he cares! The praise you bestow your pup (and the tasty treat you give) makes him happy, and this experience of learning is a great bonding activity.
Sending your dog off to obedience school removes you from the training process and prevents this special bonding from occurring. When you choose Dog Training Elite Northeast Ohio, we ensure you are part of the training process. All in-home training programs involve you and any other family members that care for your dog. Our trainers’ goal is to teach you how to train your dog.
Quickly Teach Obedience
Obedience commands are essential to any full-scope dog training program. These commands ensure the safety of your dog and prevent any undesired problems. Obedience is the core of successful training, and your dog must learn these commands before he can progress.
Our in-home training program focuses on ingrained obedience and our trainers ensure your dog learns essential commands, such as sit, place, come, stay, lay, off, drop it, and more. Once these key lessons are taught, our trainers will work with you and your pup on more advanced topics.
Correct Problem Behaviors
Does your dog jump up as a greeting, or charge the door anytime visitors announce their arrival with the doorbell? Or perhaps he begs from the table with wide, puppy eyes? These problem behaviors are easily corrected with the right training techniques.
Group classes or “puppy essentials” training programs cannot address most problem behaviors, as these issues are more likely to occur at home where your dog is most comfortable and confident. Bringing a trusted trainer into your home is the best way to address these behaviors!
In-Home Dog Trainers in Lake / Geauga Counties
Searching for a professional dog trainer is stressful. Thankfully, Dog Training Elite Northeast Ohio has various locations and experienced professional dog trainers ready to assist you and your pet. Besides basic obedience issues, our trainers are experienced in service dog training, therapy dog training, and any other specialized training your pup may need. If you are looking for in-home dog trainers in Lake / Geauga Counties, then look no further than Dog Training Elite.
We never use shock collars or punishments; our training method focuses on positive reinforcement, which has proven successful. We combine this positive reinforcement with an electronic vibration collar for optimal results. The vibration collar is not a shock collar nor does it cause pain - it is used to get your dog’s attention, like the tug of a leash. Our techniques have proven successful over the years, and we are proud to be a trusted provider of dog training services in the Lake / Geauga Counties area.

Our Balanced Theory
We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.
Empowering Owners
We empower owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times.
Personalized
We deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis.
Environment Specific
We train wherever issues tend to arise (i.e. jogging, park, home).
Supportive
We support owners in the off-hours (when training is "not in session").
Involved
We work with all members of the household.
Simplified & Customized
We plan training around the owner's schedule and require only 15 min/day follow-up practice.
Continued Training
Additional programs / group sessions offered after in-home training.
Lifetime Investment
We follow up & are invested in the owner's success long-term.
Satisfaction Ratings
Our high client satisfaction rating sets us apart from competitors.
clas·si·cal con·di·tion·ing PSYCHOLOGY noun A learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired; a response that is at first elicited by the second stimulus and is eventually elicited by the first stimulus alone.

Sharon is awesome! My pup is sweet as can be but very stubborn. He had a potty and nipping problem and of course did not want to listen. At the tender age of 4 months my Bentley is now an angel and can do tricks with confidence like never before. In just 2 short weeks I have a brand new puppy! I’ve learned so much as a new dog mom and really appreciate the daily updates and video guidance. Highly recommended using Dog training Elite services and you will not regret it! Don’t walk, run and get signed up. Pic of my Bentleys graduation as evidence!—

Shawn was amazing teaching my future service dog the right obedience behaviors. I was a little worried as I had used a different trainer first since I got my dog at 5 months old and needed him to know the basics and lived in FL at the time. Shawn’s training was far superior and I will be moving forward with him to train my dog for the service dog part. He is patient, knowledgeable and always on time. Sharron is a pleasure to work with as well. Scheduling, communication and ensuring you are always satisfied and get the training times you need is something Sharron has mastered . This is a top notch outfit that I would recommend to anyone. You can rest assured your dog will be so much better behaved after his program.— Gary Lock

I highly recommended Dog Training Elite Denver for all training needs. I have trained 3 dogs through their service animal program with great success and have first hand the efficacy of their method in resolving all types of behavioral issues. On top of everything, the DTE Denver team has provided over the top personalized support through every challenge I have faced with my precious pups. I’m a big fan - to say the absolute least!— Alexa Tetzlaff

DTE-Denver truly lives up to their tagline. They absolutely are the last dog trainers you'll ever need. I found DTE-Denver after my Goldendoodle was certified as a therapy dog through another trainer, but I didn't feel that her behavior was as reliable as I wanted it to be in order to to feel safe with students in my classroom. After 4 months of training with DTE, my pup passed her therapy test and is as reliable off-leash as she is on-leash. We love all of you at DTE-Denver! Thank you for changing our lives and the lives of the students Kona will continue to help for years to come!— Catherine Kaminski

Thank you for the patience you show teaching Charlie’s human (me) to be a better handler. You are amazing and I would recommend you to anyone.— Rosie Holmes

Shawn, Sharon and Angela have been absolutely amazing! We participated in the Gold course which completely transformed our dog in the span of five weeks. For the longest time before the sessions, I thought that my dog just isn't the brightest (she's a pitbull with mostly AmStaffy), but I was OK with her goofiness and non-responsiveness, until she displayed some aggression toward smaller dogs Thats when I found Shawn and Sharon. Turns out, my pup is actually super smart, but she just chose to ignore what I want! Since she has been spoiled all her childhood and adult life (she's 3), we have had one of the most difficult session where my dog just don't want to work with Shawn (thinking she can still get away with bad behaviors), and I so much appreciate that Shawn did not give up - because he persisted through, my dog respects Shawn, and respects her owners, and completely changed her perspective on the training (i.e. more cooperative) After our sessions, she is now able to go wherever I point, sits (even w/o command), mastered leash manners (no pulling, stay within a foot distance), and definitely leaves other dogs alone when I tell her so. She pays so much attention to me now, I cannot even believe it!! She constantly comes to me to check on me, and we bonded on such a deep level through our practices that I never thought was possible. Thank you DTE!— Angie W

The trainers at Dog Training Elite are amazing! We are first time dog owners, and really appreciate their expertise and willingness to answer our many questions. They really individualized the training based on our puppy’s personality and abilities and helped us know how to continue and reinforce his training at home. We are so glad we found such fantastic trainers for our cute puppy Scout!— Sara Margetts

We've tried dog training before with a different company but gave up due to no results. When we tried DTE we were skeptical but even just the free hour-long consultation with Evan showed us this place cared more than the other. We also noticed results after the first session. We worked with Deidre, Ryan and Evan to train our dog as a service dog for PTSD clients we work with. They are a great team and each of them know how to cheer you on and encourage more from you and the dog. Plus, they focus on building confidence and, when you're the only handler/dog in a public space with good behavior it really goes to show how much hard work the team and us put in. We could not recommend these guys more!— Zachery Linscott

I contacted Matt at Dog Training Elite because my 6 year old dog was holding me hostage. I couldn't leave him with anyone, I was uncomfortable when company came over. I tried local store Training classes but there were still problems. My dog was dragging me up and down hills, barking and jumping at other dogs and being possessive of furniture and other items in the house. He now plays with other dogs, walks along side of me, sits calmly and waits for commands. He is a happy dog now and I no longer worry about his behavior. Thank you Dog Training Elite.— Debbie Cooper

All of the trainers are amazing to work with. They explained things to us in a way that was very easy to understand so that we were confident whenever we did our homework each night with our dog, Jango. It's been so fun watching Jango learn and grow throughout this process, we are so proud of him and are grateful for all of the trainers that worked with us. Jake, Jeff, and McCall, thank you so much! You all are amazing!— Ashlee Taylor

I did a lot of research before picking Dog Training Elite. I am so happy with my decision. My puppy had learned so much in the 6 at home lessons. He had some aggressive behavioral issues that have gotten significantly better since we started training. I couldn’t recommend them more!— Jane Hodell

My sister and I went through a 5 week in person private training course with Shawn from Dog Training Elite and we can truly say that we've seen a huge difference in obedience and training with our dog Adonis. Shawn was patient with us and explained steps in a thorough manner that allowed us to truly understand how to get Adonis to follow commands! We're super excited to continue training with Dog Training Elite Charlotte!— Anesha Colquhoun

The Ballards have changed my life by training my dog and I to be the best team we can be! If you are looking for service dog training, I would highly recommend. DTE’s training program works fast and it sticks! Han Solo and I have so much fun at group classes. They make things fun and structured. You are not only training your dog! You are finding a like minded community to support you in the process. ☀️That’s a beautiful thing ☀️ Thank you guys for being such a compassionate company!! 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️—

We started the training less than two months ago, and the results have been dramatic! We were dealing with a highly energetic English setter who was constantly barking in our fence to any walkers passing by, plus reactive behavior toward other dogs when walking on a leash. I had tried the usual trainers with a reward-based program with no success. This is not my first dog ownership. My previous experiences were with dogs that were much easier to train. The barking was, for me, a significant problem due to its impact on the neighbors. However, after the first visit with Neal, the barking was gone!! The training immediately corrected the jumping on the couch or at the counter. We have completed the home visits and are participating in the group classes with fantastic success. He is still a happy and playful puppy. The difference now is that he obeys our commands and understands the limits. Neal and his team have been professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Thank Neal, Ashley, Azure, and the rest of the team for all their help.— Debora Gama Lima

I could not be happier. I worked with Ky and he is exceptional in his training program. So happy with the degree of training and instructions. If you follow what your instructor tells you to do your dog will have the best manners which makes awesome service dogs and companion. I can not even express how please I am with my service. Thank you so much I really appreciate everyone and everything.— Carla Ammons

Matt and his team do an incredible job and they all have the best hearts. I reached out to DTE with a fear reactive dog, completely hysterical over a bite incident. Within 30 minutes Matt was at my house for an evaluation, and upon meeting my dog he decided that he did not think the aggressive program was necessary, and we gave the obedience program a try first, and he was right! We met a few trainers before finding one that not only bonded with my dog, but one my dog felt comfortable with, and for the remaining sessions it was him we had the pleasure of seeing once a week. He pushed all of us out of our comfort zone, challenging me to work hard and earn that trust and confidence my dog again. I am happy to say that with DTE’s obedience program we are now able to take the dog with us to eat on the patios of populated bars without so much as a bark or a growl. My dogs trust in me, my trust in him, and my trust in myself have all benefited from working with Dog Training Elite. I now have the tools to keep my dog, and everyone else safe, happy, and comfortable; and not only has the reactivity gotten better but my dog is overall better behaved, more obedient, less anxious, and just all around a better listener. I could not be more pleased or more grateful for my experience with Matt’s team of trainers.— Mallory Newberry
