Labradors have been the No. 1 most popular dog breed in America for close to three decades. It’s not hard to understand why – Labradors are playful, energetic, smart and friendly. They make great companions for individuals and families and generally get along with children and other pets.

Although high-energy, Labradors are laidback and easy going, unfazed by the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Bred originally to be working dogs, their intelligence also makes them a great option for service or therapy dogs.

If you are starting out with a brand new Labrador puppy, Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle’s personalized in-home training programs can help you develop a strong bond with your new puppy and harness all of the incredible benefits of the breed.

Labradors are a highly intelligent breed that loves to please, making Labrador puppy training in Raleigh / Cary a breeze. Working in your own home, a Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle trainer will create a personalized training plan for you and your puppy, addressing any unique needs or issues your puppy may have.

Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle offers expert Labrador puppy training services near you in Raleigh / Cary.

Socialization is also important for your new puppy. Once your puppy has completed obedience training, Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle offers puppy group classes which is a great way to help your puppy socialize with other dogs and people, as well as learn to obey you in a distracting environment.

While beginning Labrador puppy training at an early age can be important and extremely helpful for dogs, if you adopt an older Labrador dog don’t worry! Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle’s training methods work with older dogs too, and Labrador training will still be a snap with your Labrador’s eager-to-please attitude.

What Makes Labradors Unique?

There are many reasons to love Labradors. Here are just a few:

  1. Labradors Love the Water
  2. You may have already known this fact, because Labs are pretty famous for loving the water. They’re actually made for it! A Lab can use their thick tail – sometimes referred to as an “otter tail” – as a powerful rudder. They also have wide, webbed feet to help them swim fast and waterproof coats that help them stay comfortable even in cold water.

  3. They were Bred as Hunting Dogs
  4. Initially, Labs were bred as duck retrievers, and then later as game-hunting companions. They tend to excel in retriever field trials and retriever hunting tests. They’re incredibly versatile as sport dogs, excelling in agility, rally and obedience sports.

  5. Labs Come in Three Colors
  6. Labrador coats come in three colors – black, yellow, and chocolate.

  7. Labs can do Almost Anything
  8. Their intelligence, energy and affectionate nature makes them a popular choice for service and therapy dogs, as well as for search and rescue teams, and bomb and drug detection. Suffice to say, all Labradors are very good dogs who do very good jobs.

Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle is the #1 labrador puppy training near you in Raleigh / Cary.

Keeping Your Labrador Happy and Healthy

Although Labradors are famously laid back and friendly, that doesn’t mean they don’t require attentive care. If you’re considering adopting a Labrador, or you already have one and want to learn more about how to keep your pup happy and healthy, consider the following:

  • Labradors Need Plenty of Exercise - Although Labs are easy going, they need plenty of exercise – even up to two hours a day. This can be made up of long walks, training sessions, playing fetch or going to the dog park. Though it’s important to make sure they get enough exercise, you also need to be careful you don’t let your dog overdo it, especially as a puppy why their joints and bones are still growing.
  • Groom Your Lab Weekly - Labradors have short, smooth coats that are prone to shedding. Combing them weekly with a comb or bristle brush, or combing daily during shedding season, can help keep shedding under control. Make sure you have a good vacuum!
  • Manage their Diet - As big, energetic dogs, Labs need to eat a lot – but they can be prone to putting on pounds, as well. Follow the recommended amounts on dog food packaging, or consult with your vet.
  • Make sure Your Labrador Gets Lots of Attention - Labradors are very social. Socialization with other dogs is important, so trips to the dog park, doggy play dates or group training classes at Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle can be beneficial for both you and your dog. If your Lab has to be home without you for long stretches of time, be sure to have stimulating dog toys, puzzles and chew toys available for them, and consider hiring someone to check on and play with them during the day.

Our Balanced Theory

We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.

  • Empowering Owners
We empower Owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times.
  • Personalized
We deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis.
  • Environment Specific
We train wherever issues tend to arise (i.e. jogging, park, home).
  • Supportive
We support Owners in the off-hours (when training is "not in session").
  • Involved
We work with all members of the household.
  • Simplified & Customized
We plan training around the owner's schedule and require only 20 min/day follow-up practice.
  • Continued Training
Additional programs / group sessions offered after in-home training.
  • Lifetime Investment
We follow up & are invested in the owner's success long-term.
  • Satisfaction Ratings
Our high client satisfaction rating sets us apart from competitors.

I cannot give enough praise to Savannah and the team at Dog Training Elite. I worked with shepherds for years teaching them the basics on leash for a rescue in town and I am flabbergasted at the transformation of mine. She is going to be a great companion for life thanks to this team. Cannot recommend them enough!

I decided to get a goldendoodle a year ago and knew I wanted to work with someone who would not only train her but also welcome her as part of their pack. I found that in Dog Training Elite Charlotte. Within one day of puppy training she was learning puppy basics. When she came home she had so much more confidence and listened and used her basic commands. Later, she attended additional training and gained more confidence and had amazing manners. She walked on her leash and followed the heel command. She mastered her place command, her come command and so many other necessary commands for a well mannered dog. I still ensure she gets lots of practice by taking her to group classes. I could not recommend DTE more. They are the ONLY trainers I would trust with my Winnie girl. A huge thank you for your professionalism and your love of your clients (both human and dogs). I look forward to many more years of partnership with DTE.

After only 2 training sessions, we had our first real challenge (1 of 2 main reasons I made the call in the first place): a contractor was coming into our home. Last time I had him here, I brought my dog to a doggy day care because the situation is so stressful (for both of us!) and she doesn't stop barking (so it's hard to carry on a conversation). Today, he rang the bell and we couldn't even find her. (That in itself is huge because...doorbells.) She eventually came out (very quietly), sniffed, and gave one little bark and a small growl. We told her quiet and she went back to her hiding spot. This is huge. She normally runs and "attacks" as soon as she realizes there is someone new in the house and doesn't stop barking until they leave. Thank you!! Best investment ever.

Thanks to Neal and his team for helping our 6 yr old Puggles learn some manners for our new full time RV lifestyle. 5 yrs of growing up with invisible fence and back yard enclosure, our boys needed to learn obedience with distractions and how to share dog parks. We are so pleased with the results. Thanks again! Larry & Debbie Daniels Leo & Reggie 🐶🐶

Our Staffie had some major Aggression and obedience issues; with him already being 5 years old and with recently bringing a newborn home, we were nervous and knew we needed help correcting our dogs bad behavior. A friend highly recommended Dog Training Elite and we could not be more grateful. We have learned how to fix the hierarchy in our family pack as well as how to communicate better with our Staffie and now feel like we are in control. We highly recommend Dog Training Elite to any one needing help with aggression or anxiety to basic obedience. The trainers are excellent and put your mind at ease when you are nervous in those first few appointments. The trainers are sure to make sure all of your concerns are addressed and teach you the tools to achieve success with your dog. We will be putting our second dog into obedience training next and we are very excited. Thank you Dog Training Elite!!!

We sent our golden doodle puppy Blue to Elite Dog training for their 9 day training program and it worked wonders for him! Before he went to training we didn’t know how to control his puppy energy. He was biting us all, including our children. When he came home he still had his playful puppy energy, but we now have the resources to control the behavior we don’t want. He is calmer, knows his commands and listens to us. He’s only been home a few days, but we’ve already had several people comment on his good behavior. For example, when I took him to the vet, I said “place” and Blue got on the scale and calmly sat down to be weighed. Everyone in the waiting room was amazed that a 4 month old puppy had such self-control. I had Blue outside in the driveway with me (unleashed) when a delivery driver approached with a package. I told Blue to “sit” and he stayed by my side while the delivery driver dropped off the package- no jumping, no barking, no chasing. While Blue was at training we received a video each day outlining what he was working on. This was helpful not only for teaching us the commands he will know, but also gave us peace of mind that Blue was happy and well taken care of there. I highly recommend this training program!

We were on the verge of putting our dog down due to multiple instances with aggression and not wanting to have another family have the same problem. We were in tears for days about what to do. Then I got a recommendation from a friend to check out DTE and they offered a free consultation and so we decided to check it out. Evan and Ryan came over and he came in and talked to us and observed our yorkie, Chewie. After talking with us he asked if we wanted to go see his dog in the truck and see what the Training has done for his dog. I was floored by the obedience and submissiveness of his dog Echo. But was still unsure it would work for my dog and be worth the money. Evan told us to think about it and see if it was a good fit for us. No pressure from it at all but the confidence he has that it would help. Is what ended up selling us. So we signed up and started our training and our experience with our dog changed overnight. He got knocked down on the food chain from thinking he was large and in charge to realizing we were the owners and he needs to listen to everyone in our family. No matter the age. It has been a game changer for us and our family. We had never had a dog before and were lost at what to do and they helped us not only learn, but understand and implement. We had issues come up along the way and the owner came over immediately that day to address it and help correct his behavior and help us know what to do. The trainers, Ryan & Deidre, were always very good at explaining what they were doing, how the dog reacts, why he behaved or was acting a certain way to the training and they were gentle, kind, and patient during the whole process. I would recommend Dog Training Elite to anyone looking for help with their dog. It is a game changer for me and my family and I know it will be for you too. It was worth every dime and we are only through the inhome training. I look forward to continuing with it all in the group lessons too for the next 12 group lessons. So glad we found them and the confidence and help this team brought us was phenomenal. Highly recommend.

I own a year-old wire terrier (or Terror) mix, and I love her to pieces. However, my husband has had a stroke and needed our dog to be a lot calmer...and I was super-hesitant about any trainer being NICE enough to my dog, my little blond-haired Winnie. Well, I agreed to a home evaluation and was instantly impressed with both Evan and Ryan. You could tell they knew dogs well, and Winnie fell in love with them both, so I signed up and couldn't be more grateful. I loved the six visits to my home, and Winnie has learned so much about obeying simple commands, and she still loves both me and my husband. It's been a win-win situation all around.

Labrador Training With Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle

The Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle training method is based around classical conditioning with an emphasis on positive reinforcement. Classical conditioning means developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands, so when you say “sit,” your dog will sit automatically. Labradors respond especially well to positive reinforcement, but Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle trainers will tailor the Labrador puppy training method and programs to suit any individual dog’s needs.

While all dogs share qualities of kindness, loyalty and intelligence regardless of breed, Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle recognizes that every dog is an individual and may require different training methods. Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle stands out by taking into consideration what breed your dog is when making training goals.

Whatever your dog’s breed, Dog Training Elite of the NC Triangle can help you and your dog overcome any obstacles related to obedience and socialization. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.
