Goldendoodles, the offspring of a poodle and a golden retriever, make great family dogs. They have the intelligence and sensitivity of poodles and the energy and loving nature of golden retrievers. Their intelligence and desire to please makes Goldendoodle dog training in Grand Rapids fun and straightforward. At Dog Training Elite, we implement positive reinforcement training, which is perfect for Goldendoodles.
Although our training programs work for any dog and breed, we recognize that every dog is different and has different needs. We've rounded up some tips for training Goldendoodles to help you with your new furry friend. Using these tips and working with a Dog Training Elite trainer will help your Goldendoodle become a loyal companion.

Goldendoodle Training Tips Start Young
The best time to start training your Goldendoodle is from day one! If you bring your new four-legged family member home as a puppy, we recommend you start Goldendoodle dog training as soon as possible. Puppies are eager to learn and please, so starting commands from a young age will build a firm foundation for more training as they grow.
We offer training programs for puppies as young as eight weeks. But don't worry if you start training with your Goldendoodle later in life. Our tried–and–true Dog Training Elite training programs work for dogs of any age.
Goldendoodle Training Tips Begin with Simple Commands
The best way to start training—whether as a puppy or a grown dog—is with simple commands. Starting with simple and easy–to–understand commands will build confidence and trust with your dog. This is essential with a sensitive dog like a goldendoodle. We suggest starting with commands like “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and “come” Once you and your pup have these commands down, it will be easier for both of you to move on to more complex and fun commands.
Goldendoodle Training Tips Work on Eliminating Unwanted Behaviors
Although Goldendoodles have many desirable traits, a few undesirable behaviors are associated with them. The behaviors that we often see are trouble with house training, jumping, and barking. Once you have developed a good training foundation with simple commands, you can start working on eliminating unwanted behaviors.
Our trainers can work with you and your Goldendoodle to solve specific behavioral problems. Using our balanced training theory focusing on positive reinforcement, we can eliminate unwanted behavior without using force, raised voices, or discipline.
Goldendoodle Training Tips Socialize
Goldendoodles are very interactive and energetic animals, so socializing them with other dogs is essential to ensuring they are well behaved. Starting socialization at a young age is beneficial, but it can be accomplished at any age. Dog Training Elite offers group obedience classes, which are a great way to continue Goldendoodle dog training while socializing your dog in a safe environment.
Goldendoodle Training Tips Stay Consistent
Most goldendoodles are relatively easy to train, but staying consistent is essential. When training any dog, you must show your dog that you expect a specific behavior to happen every time. In return, show your dog that you will be consistent with teaching and responding to incorrect behaviors. Staying consistent during your goldendoodle dog training will help your pup learn correct behavior quickly.
Goldendoodle Training Tips Be Patient
One of the most important things to remember when training your Goldendoodle is to be patient. Training a puppy or teaching an older dog new commands can be challenging and take some time. Have patience with your dog and yourself, and you will be successful!
Stick with a Program for Goldendoodle Dog Training in Grand Rapids
Because of how intelligent and kind goldendoodles are, they are easy to teach and make great family pets. But teaching can quickly become a burden if not done correctly. At Dog Training Elite West Michigan, we take goldendoodle dog training seriously. With positive reinforcement, we give you and your dog the best chance at a happy and obedient future.

Our Balanced Theory
We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.
Empowering Owners
We empower owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times.
Personalized
We deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis.
Environment Specific
We train wherever issues tend to arise (i.e. jogging, park, home).
Supportive
We support owners in the off-hours (when training is "not in session").
Involved
We work with all members of the household.
Simplified & Customized
We plan training around the owner's schedule and require only 15 min/day follow-up practice.
Continued Training
Additional programs / group sessions offered after in-home training.
Lifetime Investment
We follow up & are invested in the owner's success long-term.

Working with Carrie has been absolutely fantastic. After the first lesson, our Samoyed Henry, was a doing so well. By the second lesson we were amazed and moved to tears at the transformation. Such a relief and joy to see Henry be able to run in the yard, off lease, without fear of him running off. He is one happy 6 month old. I cannot say enough about Carrie and this program. I’d give it 10 stars, if I could. 😊— Mary Koenigsknecht

We were desperate to find a training program that would work for our 2 year old puppy. We could not control her barking constantly around friends & family. In fact we actually had considered giving the dog away. But before that happened we decided to give our dog another chance using Dog Training Elite. Carrie & Jessica are very professional & a pleasure to work with. They would praise both our dog & us when we did things correctly, and also corrected us when gave a command that might confuse our dog. With out a doubt this was the best money we ever spent!!! My Son told us about Dog Training Elite and how it changed his dog. So we called them and Jessica Maxwell and Carrie McIntyre came to our house to discuss this training program. They were very friendly and excited about this program. I will say that it is expensive but the results are amazing. We were to the point of thinking about giving Charlotte away as we could not control her constant barking. Within the 1st week of training the barking stoped and she stopped jumping on people. She would also run away when we wanted to take her for a walk. Week two now she comes we we say come and we do not have to chase here all over the house. We have tried different training program but this by far the best. It has truly changed our dog and also the stress is gone for us trying to control her. Thank you again Dog Training Elite for helping us with our baby.— Judy Kidd
