E-Collar Dog Training in Fort Wayne, IN

Dog collars are useful for identifying your dog and providing information in case they ever get lost, and of course, they’re useful for attaching a leash to walk your dog. They can also be a fun way for your pooch to make a fashion statement.

Certain kinds of dog collars can be utilized for training purposes, such as head collars, electronic collars, and vibration collars. These are all humane electronic dog collar training choices.

Training collars are just another tool in the toolbox for helping dogs learn appropriate behaviors on their way to becoming loyal, lifelong companions. At Dog Training Elite, we use e-collar dog training in Fort Wayne, IN as part of our training programs.

Shock Collars vs. Electronic Dog Collars

As the name suggests, shock collars give a dog a “shock” via an electric current passing through metal contact points on the collar. The electrical signal can range from mild to painful. Shock collars are often used to try and teach a dog a certain behavior, such as barking or attacking other dogs, is inappropriate.

However, not all dogs will submit when they experience a shock, and it is impossible to predict how a dog will react. Some dogs may react aggressively, worsening the situation. Receiving a shock from their collar can produce an anxious reaction in dogs and potentially have long-term negative effects on a dog’s behavior.

The Role of Positive Reinforcement

Research clearly shows that training through Positive Reinforcement schedules is the most effective in teaching positive behaviors that will last long-term. Other reinforcement schedules, like Positive or Negative Punishment, can result in immediate compliance but are not effective in the long run.

At Dog Training Elite, we use electronic dog collar training in tandem with positive reinforcement. The electronic collar we use is not a shock collar and does not harm the dog. Instead, it is a vibration collar that provides a sensation like the gentle tug of a leash. It is only used to get a dog’s attention and is never used for punishment.

The Dog Training Elite Difference

When you sign up to train your dog with Dog Training Elite Northeast Indiana, our electronic dog collar training is part of the package.

The Dog Training Elite training theory is based on classical conditioning, also known as the Pavlovian method or respondent conditioning. This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when an owner says "down," their dog automatically sits without thinking about it.

Our method uses commands and an electronic collar to teach dogs to respond immediately. This approach nurtures their natural obedience and strengthens the bond with their owner, creating a dog that truly wants to please rather than one trained through fear.

Our trainer was Nathan, and he was beyond amazing, answered all of our questions and loves what he does! We thought it would take so much for our dogs to begin to listen or to follow these commands, and we did not realize it would only take the day of for our dogs to learn something Nathan had taught them, but with practicing everyday, they have only gotten better and we could not be more amazed by the experiences and everything we’ve been shown, I highly recommend dog training elite in general. Definitely worth it all😊

Clint has been a game changer. Frank struggled with reactivity and behavior challenges, and the transformation has been incredible. He is calmer, more focused, and truly feels like a different dog. Clint gave me the tools and confidence to continue the work at home. Highly recommend.

I signed my dog up for a 2 week board and train. At first I thought it was too expensive and excessive. But I did it anyway. I have absolutely no regrets! Leah has been absolutely amazing! She's very clear and concise in her communication. She doesn't just train the dog and send him home. She trains the owners as well, so we know how to continue the training once we get home with our dogs. I never thought that I could take my dog for a walk without a Gentle Leader and harness, in tandem. Today was his first day home from training and we went for our first walk together with just a slip leash. He stayed to my left, he didn't go after squirrels, he didn't go after Birds, he didn't bark at passerby's, or other dogs. He just walked calmly with me, peacefully. I can now use the grooming vacuum brush to remove the loose fur when he's shedding without him freaking out. He stays off furniture now. He understands where his areas are and where mine and he's respecting them. He doesn't run out the door anymore the second I open it. He is such a calm, peaceful, respectful, but yet still energetic, happy, and playful dog. I can't praise Leah enough for the work she did in just two weeks. She took an already amazing dog and made him so much better. She taught me how to be better as well. It's not all the dog. They are just feeding off of our energy. I've learned so much from her and highly recommend her to others, even if you just need a little tweak or a full remodel of your dog's Behavior patterns. She is absolutely amazing!

DTE is such a wonderful program! Our trainer, Nathan, was fantastic and so kind to our puppy. We are so proud of everything she learned from the program in such a short amount of time. Thanks to Nathan’s training our dog is so much more obedient but still has the sweet puppy nature in her that we love so much.

Training my miniature dachshund puppy was straightforward with Nathan. Well, as straightforward as training a dachshund can be ;) Since it was my first experience with a trainer, Nathan did a fantastic job in boosting my confidence, helping me support Vienna to be her best.

We had Clint as our Trainer. He was great with my overly anxious loud dog. Took no time at all for Miley to realize there is nothing to fear. I learned not to just ask Miley to listen but to command her to listen. This made a huge difference. My family and my family friends have all notices she is much more calm when they are over. Would totally recommend!

Amazing staff! We got our dog and he was about 7 months old was not confident due to his previous owners. After training not only does he do an amazing job at commands but he has so much more confidence in himself. We got a new puppy recently and she will be going thru the same training with them

My wife and I were very frustrated at home due to our resource guarding and reckless behavior. We reached out to Dog Training Elite and were impressed from the start. Within 1-2 seasons, our dog respected us much more. Nathan is an awesome trainer and is always flexible and willing to help. I would recommend them to anyone who is having troubles at home with their dog. This experience has been life changing and allowed us to enjoy time at home with our dog.

We have a 1 yr old great dane named Moose. We were having difficulty keeping him under control. He jumped on people and went absolutely crazy when he saw another animal (not vicious just wanting to play) counter surfed, all the things puppies do. It was very difficult to walk him especially if he saw another dog. After training with Clint and Nathan, Moose is like a different dog. He is still a playful happy puppy but with manners. I'm able to loose leash walk him even around other dogs. He understands all the commands and follows them. His life and ours are better since the training.

We had a wonderful experience with Nathan! He came to our home and was so patient, knowledgeable, and great with our dog. He took the time to explain everything clearly and gave us easy, effective techniques that made a big difference right away. You can tell he truly cares about both dogs and their owners. We’re so glad we worked with him and highly recommend Nathan to anyone looking for a professional trainer!
