This review is for Rod of [Elite Dog Training?] and our experience with him. We’ve worked with Rod since April of this year (so over 6 months). For context, we have a ‘very’ active and boisterous black lab pup, she was only a few months’ old when Rod came on the scene. We (wife and I) wanted her trained (our last pup was very calm - this one is total opposite) and we really needed help with that aspect. Also, since I’m a Retired Vet, I wanted our pup trained as a service animal and Rod came highly recommended through the VA in Chattanooga. Really nice guy - wife and I both like him a lot. He is always punctual, has a very calm demeanor and is very pleasant and easy to get along with. He has helped us tremendously with our pup.
A couple of things to note that Rod helped us out (which others may be able to identify with): she was jumping up at the kitchen island and counters nonstop for food (and we are careful not to leave food out), nonetheless, this is what she did. We mentioned that to Rod, he did his thing (while we watched, amazed) and nipped it in the bud. Now, not going to lie and say she hasn’t done it since but, it is ‘all’ up to the owner once Rod has shown us what to do. Another thing was she was fine being in the car, then just suddenly became terrified and wouldn’t get in the car! Totally bizarre and, as we were going on a road trip, that was a real potential nightmare for us. Rod helped us out with that and in one session, got her in the car, all fine and dandy. Thankfully she has not reverted back - this was huge for us. There’s probably a dozen other really great things we’ve learned through Rod but these two stand out. To be clear, even though Rod is excellent with the training and our pup (naturally) performs brilliant for him, it is up to us (as owners) to carry on with the training. Not going to see we do that religiously but what is nice is that we have the tools (that is, we know what to do in each circumstance) when the pup is acting out (of control!!) Also, it’s great knowing that she is fully trained and ‘registered’ as a service animal for me, which means we can take her anywhere. We’ve taken her out to restaurants and she goes ‘under’ the table and just stays there quietly while we eat and relax. We’ve also stayed in a hotel and she was pretty good - I wouldn’t say 100% perfect but way better than at the outset (which was a nightmare). Also want to add, with our last pup, we went to two group trainings and also tried two trainers. Rod is by far and away ‘head and shoulders’ above the other guys we tried. If you’re in the area and on the fence about a trainer for your pup, I have no hesitation in recommending Rod. He is so professional and makes our training sessions so easy!
