You just brought home a fluffy ball of joy as the newest family member. After the initial oohs and aahs of cuteness, you'll find out that your new puppy is quite the monster. Chewing, whining, nipping and accidents in the house are all common puppy behaviors. In order to avoid these behaviors and prevent worse ones from becoming a habit, early puppy training is essential. Dog Training Elite has experienced puppy trainers on staff that can help you build an obedient and loyal bond with your new canine companion.
Benefits of Early Puppy Training
- Preventing Bad Behavior -- Dogs often develop problem behaviors early on and if these behaviors are not quickly addressed then it can be difficult to correct them in the future. Early obedience training teaches dogs proper behavior and works to eliminate bad, negative actions.
- Establishing Respect -- Your dog looks up to you for guidance and is often eager to please in training sessions. By effectively engaging and teaching your dog the right way to behave, he or she will learn to respect your commands.
- Ensuring Safety -- Many obedience training commands are meant to keep your dog safe from harm. Commands such as “stop” and “come” could prevent your dog from bolting out into traffic or running away from home.
- Creating Bonds -- Dogs love to engage with their humans, whether it's play, snuggling, or learning. Training your dog is an activity that you both share and encourages a healthy, loving bond.
When Can I Start Training My Puppy?
As a first time dog owner, you may be wondering when is the best time to start training your new puppy. The sooner you start, the better. The first few months of a dog's life are critical to development so it's important to take advantage of this and train early. While more complicated commands can wait, all puppies should begin potty training and basic commands as soon as possible.
While all of this can be overwhelming, you don't have to do it on your own! Professional training assistance will make the first few weeks with your new pal a breeze. Dog Training Elite offers puppy training for dogs as young as 8 weeks. Obedience puppy training is a great option for first time dog owners or busy individuals who don't have the time necessary to devote to training. Obedience classes are a great way to expose your young puppy to other dogs, people, new sounds and sights. Combining obedience classes with training at home will ensure a well behaved puppy that learns quickly. Sign your puppy up today and we will help transform him into a loyal, loving companion.
Phases of Our Puppy Training Program:
Phase 1Phase 1 begins when your puppy is at least 8 weeks and is focused on treat training and basic commands. Tips for housebreaking and crate training will be a central part of Phase 1.
Phase 2Once your puppy has reached 12 weeks of age he or she can begin to learn more complicated commands. Treats will be slowly phased out and the trainer will focus exclusively on positive reinforcement. An electronic collar will be introduced as a training tool used to get your puppy's attention when he or she becomes distracted. This is not a shock collar and does not harm your puppy. Commands that your puppy will learn include: sit, come, stay, heel, place and more.
Our Balanced Theory
We base our training around the "Classical Conditioning" model (a.k.a. "Pavlovian" or "respondent conditioning"). This includes developing conditioned or automatic reflexes to commands. In its simplest form (after proper conditioning), when the owner says "sit," the dog automatically sits without thinking about it. Our unique techniques ensure our program is a success no matter what behavior we encounter.
Empowering OwnersWe empower owners to train so their dog knows who to obey at all times.
PersonalizedWe deal with problem behaviors on a personal basis.
Environment SpecificWe train wherever issues tend to arise (i.e. jogging, park, home).
SupportiveWe support owners in the off-hours (when training is "not in session").
InvolvedWe work with all members of the household.
Simplified & CustomizedWe plan training around the owner's schedule and require only 15 min/day follow-up practice.
Continued TrainingAdditional programs / group sessions offered after in-home training.
Lifetime InvestmentWe follow up & are invested in the owner's success long-term.
Satisfaction RatingsOur high client satisfaction rating sets us apart from competitors.

Puppy Preschool Near You
The well socialized, loyal and obedient dog you dream of begins with early training. Most pet owners falsely believe that puppies are too young to begin proper training. These early developmental months are actually critical to successful training! Puppies are eager to learn, curious and explorative. What you teach them during this time sets up a strong base for quick, successful training as they approach adulthood.
If you are searching for "puppy preschool near me," you're probably aware of these benefits of early learning. Or maybe you just don't know how to handle the overabundance of energy that your little pal has! Whatever the reason, puppy preschool is a good option for energetic pups. Beyond tiring your dog out, however, puppy preschool offers little else. For a program that harnesses your puppy's energy in a positive, educational way, it's best to begin with puppy training.
Positive Training Methods
At Dog Training Elite, we use the classical condition method in all of our training programs. This method focuses on encouraging proper behaviors with positive reinforcement. We never use punishment as a form of training as this can lead to aggression and fear in dogs. An electronic vibration collar helps your pet stay alert and treats will be utilized in the first stage as extra encouragement for your puppy.
Positive reinforcement teaches your puppy that performing obedient behaviors wins your love and affection. Your professional puppy trainer will be sure to include you in the process so that your dog learns you are the one in charge. With the help of Dog Training Elite, you and your new puppy can build a strong, healthy relationship founded on loyalty and trust!

If you are interested in our puppy training program, but still have some questions, read the answers to our most commonly asked questions below!
We accept puppies as young as 8 weeks old. Puppies this young are still able to learn, but their training must occur in short bursts to ensure optimal results. Phase 1 is for younger puppies and is defined by treat-training. Our trainers will teach your puppy basic commands, prompted by treats. Once your puppy has reached 12 weeks, more involved training can take place and treats will be removed from the program.
- Down / Lay
- Place / Bed
- Heel (no leash pulling)
- Off (the couch, bed, etc.)
Your trainer will also give you tips for housebreaking and crate training. If your puppy shows signs of aggression or anxiety, the training program will be adjusted to address these issues.
Yes! At Dog Training Elite, we use in-home training programs. This encourages a healthy bond between owner and pet and helps you participate more fully in your pet's life. In-home training provides better results than obedience classes as your puppy feels more comfortable in his own environment.
No, we never use shock collars in any training program. Instead, we use gentle vibration electronic collars that do not hurt or startle your pet. Our training programs are based on the Pavlovian model, or positive-reinforcement.
